Black Cavendish. Hands down. This is my "favorite soap" most of the time.
But scent is very important. A nice citrus is a good pick me up, the above is sophisticated and relaxing, Leatherneck is relaxing and manly, And The Arizona Goats Milk Soap company makes a scent that is to me just plain addictive. The scent of the soap sets the mood for the shave, this is what makes the daily cares float away so you can concentrate on and get full enjoyment out of your shave. Unscented soap is like a fully dressed dancer, its doing its job but its not a thrill.

My EDS (Every Day Soap) for quite awhile now is Mama Bear's Rosemary Mint with Shea and Aloe. Great scent, thick lather that lasts and resists drying out and it's got good glide to is as well.
Utopian gave me a few slivers of Tabac to try and I made the mistake of letting my wife smell it as is. She said it smelled exactly like a cross between Lysol spray (the old/original scent) and cheap Aqua Net hairspray. Alas, to keep the peace, I didn't use it! I should NOT have let her smell it until I actually lathered with it since I'm sure the smell changes dramatically and improves dramatically once it's used.

I love Tabac, but quite literally can't stand the scent. Mixed as lather, or straight from the puck, the stuff is just nasty. But it works so well that I gag my way through both head and face shaves with it. Supposedly, Irish Moos is the same stuff but with a more agreeable scent. I have yet to get my hands on it, though.
Tabac is the only soap that will allow me to go against the grain on back-to-back shave days on my face, as well as allowing me to shave the noggin more than once every few days.
I really look forward to letting the face get to two day's growth so I can use something other than Tabac to shave with. I have *never* smelled a nastier toiletry product.

Thanked: 3795Maybe my sense of smell was ruined by the years I spent growing up on a farm, but I just never understood the vehement objection so many people have to the smell of Tabac. I do appreciate and acknowledge that it has a complicated scent, but I just don't find it objectionable in any way at all. Because of my work, I have to avoid most aftershaves and colognes, but even if that were not the case I would avoid combining Tabac with another scent because I would assume it would clash. Other than that complication, I think the scent is just fine.
Lyson and Aqua Net, huh? Did you throw it away or just stash it till she's not around?

Agreed. I love the scent of Tabac. I usually don't combine it with other scents (the soap doesn't leave any scent behind that I can smell). However, today I did use Tabac AS followed by Penhaligons Quercus. Not bad. They are similar enough, to my nose anyway, that it works.
