It leaves you speechless, doesn't it? It just has that effect.

I have to quote Mr. Krabbs when I think of a whiff of Tabac...

"You smell that smell? It's kind of a smelly smell... a smelly smell that smells......smelly"

Makes me gag every time I use it, but it's such a good soap I use it just about every day. And it's *really* nasty when its smell is mixed in with the cheap hair conditioner I use as a pre-shave.....gurk.

Anxious to try the Irish Moos if superlather.com would ever get it back in stock.

Joeman, I regularly use Tabac and Irisch Moos, they are both made by Maurer Wirtz and are very similar in performance, that is to say Excellent. The Moos only comes in stick form, which is fine by me, as I like using sticks anyhow. The lather seems to be just a little richer and cushionier(is that a word?)if possible. Both give a superb shave.
Now I have never used either for a straight shave yet, but I notice that the Moos sometimes leaves a little more soap residue on my DE blades. This is no problem for me, as I always take my blades out of the razor, pat them dry and hand strop them a little.
The scent of the Moos is not very complex, to me it smell green and fresh with just a hint of sea air in it.

Funny thing about the scent of Tabac. One of the young fellows on another shaving board, who didn't care for the scent, once said that the smell reminded him of his grandma's drawers. I always wanted to say "Sonny, you Grandma's drawers smelled pretty damn good."

    Default The smell of Tabac

    Gentlemen,

Tabac's fragrance is a blend of powder, soap and every delightful bouquet one can think of. They all combine to create a soft and refreshing all-day companion for the gentleman shaver. I have several large ceramic bottles of it in my stash — just in case the world comes to an end.

    Regards,

    Obie

    Default The Smell of Tabac

    Gentlemen,

Oh, yes, I love the Tabac shave soap as well. I rotate several soaps and creams during the week. Tabac remains in the rotation.

Also, the puck lasts for an eternity. It seems I started with the present puck in the last century, and I know it will be there in the next century.

Ah, it's good to experience quality.

    Regards,

    Obie

It is quite long lived. My puck is a year and a half old, and I'm not making much of a dent in it. Viva la Tabac!

I've been lurking in this thread and couldn't help but laugh when I saw this. I've never used Tabac but I have smelled it. I intended on using it after Ron aka Utopian was generous enough for me to shave some off his puck at a MN meet last year. I brought it home and had my wife smell the shavings. She said it smelled like Lysol mixed with Aqua Net hair spray and said it was awful. She requested that I not use it and instead toss it. I thought it was a very strong scent.

I didn't gag when I smelled it, but I actually did gag when I smelled a puck of Van der Hagen cheap soap I bought from an online drugstore site. I actually gagged it was so strong and I thought bad. I chucked it and never even tried it.

Oh, I laughed when I read what you wrote because I actually think you might be serious.

I hope you didn't toss the Tabac!

Give it a go. Once your wife sees you post-Tabac clean shaven, and gets a whiff of the testosterone laden scent on a real man, not just Tabac shavings, she will come around to see the light!

Yeah, I lost that battle and the Tabac shavings went in the can. Maybe, just maybe, if Ron is going to be at the next MN gathering next month, he may be nice enough to bring it again and I can grab another small sample and really try it this time?
