Ok so i attempted the double boiler method on the Clove soap, it didnt work at all (but i used that one cuz the scent makes me sick to my stomach). however it worked amazingly well with a cheese grater, i didnt even have to try to get it to mold to the cup, it is very pliable soap.

just got back from soaptopia.. i was planning on getting this clove soap.. but was told it wasn't in yet.. it had been made.. but hadn't been cut yet. just to clarify what flavour it was.. felix called to find out.. it's a vanilla,almond,cinnamon.. no cloves he said..
so.. anyway.. i have the almond, eucalyptus.. and there is a rosewood that i don't have plans of purchasing at this time..
has anyone any scents i havn't mentioned? seems like everyone has different soaps.. is there a clove soap or not?
also... i picked up one of the pure badger brushes.. i chose the one that looked the most silver toward the tips. i pm'd soaptopia to find out who the manufacturer was and have not received a reply as of yet. but for 28 bucks.. i'm sure i'm coming out ahead.

For customer service they get a A plus! I called yesterday they took my order and were going to call me back with all flavors and shipping costs I missed the call but talked to nancy just a few seconds ago. She was great. They will be cutting and shipping our order tomorrow I also had a couple of there standard soaps (if you can call anything they have standard) sent for something different then the normal dove it should be great. I am excited and worried my wallet can not handle all the fregrances I found that sound very good. If it was not for the members of the srp I would not have tried soaptopia. Oh and Nancy said thst the shave bars have been flying out as fast as they make them. She said she did not know that the srp was a active forum that comunicated with each other. nanna

Thanked: 1936I have to agree that the customer service is great...but can't say the shave soap is all that and a bag of chips. My summary: It dries out too dang quick and lacks cushion.
My review:
Packaging - (10) Packaging was excellent on shave soap, what I would expect to find in a higher end soap
Texture - (8) Puck could be pressed into bowl, not too hard, not too soft.
Latherability - (5) I tried every trick that I know with a super badger and silvertip & couldn't get a rich lather. I could build foam, but not a good lather no matter if I loaded the brush till it needed rinsed out.
Cushion - (6) I shave with short strokes and did shave with a freshly honed blade that had only been used one time, but I felt that I was taking a thin layer of skin off. I only shave WTG, ATG, & touch-ups.
Moisturising - (5) This soap dried out too quick to be called a moisturising soap. Temperature of lather was warm, not hot & shouldn't have evaporated so quick.
Price - (6) Lets face it, it's cheap, but in my opinion there are other shaving soaps out there in this price catagory that are better.
I will try this soap a couple more times, but have a feeling it's destined for my waste basket.

i know you guys are probably getting annoyed with me, as i keep preventing this thread from dying.. so i apologize..
anyway.. i have been having tons of success with this soap and do enjoy it greatly.. granted it's nowhere near as great as my dr. harris or trumpers.. for being only 5 dollars.. it's good stuff.. my advice to anyone who is having a hard time with this soap is to take it easy on the water.. i do not own any silvertip brushes.. infact.. my two best brushes are a simpson wee scot and an aos pure badger.. i am able to create a thick cushiony lather with both of those.. but i have preferred using my vdh deluxe with this soap.. so far i only have the almond and the eucalyptus.. but the vdh does a great job when i soak it in hot water while showering and then squeeze the bristles with my hand to remove virtually all water from the brush.. i then load directly from the dish and face lather.. soap works wonders for me.. and the scent in enjoyable.
so cheers and i'll stop bringing this thread back up if we're all done with it..

Thanked: 24vthomlinson,
I notice that you say you only face lather...have you tried to build lather in a bowl yet and if so how does it lather then? I am waiting on myorder to come in it has been shipped but I only lather in a bowl to build a good lather the apply to the face. I have not had any problem with any other soaps I've tried I use a "Pure" badger brush and mix untill the lather is good and thick with hardly any air bubbles in it, much like coolwhip.
Reguards,
RB

To win me over you'll need a Bay Rum scented shaving soap. My current supplier - who makes a goat's milk based soap - has just announced they're ceasing production of their Bay Rum shaving soap.

i have built lather in a bowl when mixing with cream.. but have yet to just build lather with only soap in a bowl..
i have palm lathered many times just cause i like latherbuilding and don't need to shave yet... i can create a thick lather without problems.. i will say that it is not as thick as my trumpers or d.r. harris soaps.. and recently i lathered mwf for the first time and it also was much thicker than soaptopia..
if you want coolwhip lather.. you are most likely not going to get it from this soap alone.. i would suggest a small squirt of kiss my face cream to build a superlather.
