I'm also a big fan of the Arko shave stick and it's wonderful, clean scent. The Arko shave creams are good as well. Though not tallow based, they are inexpensive, give great lather and have more modern scents. The AS creams are great too. Hell, I guess I am just an all around fan of all Arko products.

Yep -- there are days when I order something that takes me to the free shipping line.
When I do I sample shave soaps. My last winner was a stick of "Palmolive" that makes
an astoundingly thick and smooth lather. It is just right for my face grater application
method then I face lather, mug lather, add water,,,, alternating face mug, adding water
dribble by dribble. Palmolive lathered so richly with my good badger brush that I went
through my brush rotation .... and from my $7 boar brush, horse hair, very good boar,
three excellent badger brushes .... and got a fine shave and fine lather from all.
Arko and Speick are on my wish list -- as soon as I have used up most of my 1000g
block of Cella ;-)

Thanked: 1When I received my first razor from the SRP classefieds, the seller added a stick of arko. Love it! My wife has a little tube of Nivea chap stick, witch is larger than regular Chapstick. Maybe 5/8 to 3/4 of a inch. Once she uses it all I'm going to pack it full of arko. Don't see it getting much smaller and more convenient for travel. I will try to post pick once I do.

Thanked: 26Every time I use the stuff, on trips, usually, I feel dirty. It's so easy, and works so well that I feel like I have done something wrong. :-)

I agree and like this soap stick. I am in with Disburden in that I have purchased over 3-12 packs of the stick and it is my main stay shaving soap. I use it both in stick form and smashed into a cup.
It performs great and is economical.
The scent doesn't bother me but if it is a bit strong to you, you can always open it, place it in a bowl in the garage for a week to air out. To me it is a lemony, fresh, soapy scent.

Thanked: 0I picked up an Arko shaving stick in some outletstore for about €0.50. Gave it a whiff and immediately loved the smell. Fresh, but it did have something warm and spicy in it. I love warm and spicy fragrances. It does seem that not a lot of people share my opinion the smell though. At that price, I really wanted to give it a shot. And it really, really works great when directly applied to the skin! I was amazed by how well it lathers.
Another go to product for me is De Vergulde Hand. Lovely, fresh smell that reminds me of my grandfather (he always used DVH), lathers well and is actually dirt cheap.
Next on my to try list: Palmolive.

You have some company, I love the smell of Arko too. It smells fresh and clean to me and works well. Shave sticks are the way to go for me to get simple no fuss shaving. I am betting you will like Palmolive too.

I haven't actually tried Arko yet, but I will say the author of a blog that I follow was singing the praises of DE shaving (which after reading what he'd written led me to straight shaving) and his go to soap was Arko.
I actually bought a stick that also comes with a 75 gram alum block for $10 shipped off the bay last night. Hoping to have it by the weekend for sure!"Willpower and Dedication are good words," Roland remarked, "There's a bad one, though, that means the same thing. That one is Obsession." -Roland Deschain of Gilead
