Your right Pixelfixed...but once I get a strop (I use linen) conditioned with it, I just use the Strop-Aide to re-freshen the strop after I shave. That way it is always 'loaded'. I shave every other day and although I don't use it every shave, that amount of time seems to do the trick allowing the lead to oxidize and turn white.
Oh... and it Does Work! I've been using it now exclusively rather than CrOx to soften my newly honed edges. But like they say...YMMV!

Yes, I've tried it for a while now.
I find it hard to tell what it does but it's not hurting the edge for sure and I do get a silky smooth edge.
Still I've used it on already good edges and the extra stropping could make it smoother by it self.
Have used it on a linen strop (it gets all lead grey but the next day it's all white again) and as a lead lapping plate.
The plate is not totally flat so it's almost useless as it is now, anyone know how to flatten it?
Edit, Next up is Mercury oxide!Last edited by Lemur; 12-09-2013 at 06:47 PM.

I didn't just "give it a try".
It's now part of my sharpening armada, especially for old Sheffield blades!
Have to make a nice holder for the lead, wood or horn, and hang it with the strops!Hur Svenska stålet biter kom låt oss pröfva på.

Ditto...Makes me convinced that those 'old guys' that wrote about it a 150 years ago really knew their stuff.
When you have your 'Lead Holder' fashioned I would like to see a pic. Please post it up...
Thanks!

Thanked: 1Absolutely works, a leaded linen strop. It has put me over the top in getting a smooth , keen edge. I struggled through getting a razor with a smooth edge, and prior to using lead, only obtained it maybe 10% of the time. Hit and miss. Now after stropping with leaded linen, every razor I strop is top tier for me. It is just unbelievable the difference it has made for me. Again, YMMV. Thanks for the info!

+1 Garland... It's been months now since I've used any other type of pasted strop. Every newly honed razor gets finished with my 'Strop Aide' on linen. Every shave starts with 10 of so light laps on my lead oxide pasted strop, followed with regular linen and leather. Every shave, every razor regardless of make or type of steel performs beautifully!
IMHO
