For your information I didn't ride in saying amen. I simply stated maybe he was talking about his website and not this forum. i'm not gonna get dragged into this though since its not worth it. There are some gold dollar razors that can and have been sharpened and work just as well as other more expensive razors... there are not a lot but there are some and I happen to own one that is good. it was sharpened and ground where necessary and it works as well as some of the other razors i have used in the past that were sharpened by some of the best in the business.... if the reference to a jaro was meant as an insult it didn't work because like I said in another post the user name is just a combination of first and last name. I agree there are a lot of better razors out there and most people hate the GD razors but there are some of them that are okay....

Ok some people do come in saying they have tamed or " fixed" the problems with GD razors. In the benefit of the doubt unless I have tried the persons razor I don't go around saying they are not telling the truth. There are plenty of razor mod competitions where people mod the GD razors and there have been some truly excellent razors made out of those cheap chinese razors... I do not believe that all the people who say they fixed them are not being honest... Why would someone knowingly destroy their reputation over those type of claims.anyway this is starting to bore me so have a great night everyone.

I will say his, you can shave with a butter knife if you do a bunch of mods, my point is WHY? Why buy the damn thing if it’s already screwed up? For the same money you can buy a razor that DONT have the issues. I don’t care if it’s Gold Dollar, or Lead Pennies, buy something starting out that doesn’t have issues.

Typically it’s a guy who decided to get into shaving, and along comes Mr. gold dollar selling, the guy could do better and most suggest they do as in, hey don’t bother with the geometry and terrible scales and just buy an older , known correctly ground razor, hopefully honed buy a reputable seller, instead of an internet expert,( dr, Matt comes to mind) and grind the daylights out of the POS. So the advice to buy other than is sound, but I guess the ones pushing this would be the guy who marries an ugly woman and then sends her to the doctors to fix everything wrong! Wouldn’t it have been smarter to just marry the one you want.

Now unfortunately we now have another POS gold dollar thread. And to be honest I guess it got off wrong cause the guy just wants to sell something, it’s his right, but his experience from other forums has always created this reaction between selling them and the honing System hawked.

Never been there, I buy a whole cow from a beef farmer, I'd once worked for.
I can look at his books to see what shots the steer was given, from the time it was bought as a feeder calf, to the day it goes to slaughter.

I can honestly say, I know what I'm eating.!

Just look at the marbling in that roast, won't find that in a grocery store. And it only cost me $2.37 a lb.

Quality has improved considerably in the last couple years. Would you like to try one, free, on me? Here is what I suggest. I send you one. You try it. If you don't like it, then keep it, toss it, give it away, return it, whatever. If you like it enough to pay for it, then do so if you feel like it. Are you willing to give it a chance? You don't even have to be honest in your review, or review it at all. These are stock, unmodified, straight out of the cheesy little blue boxes, just honed. Like I said, no obligation. But you will know. And I will know that you know.

I have in my life owned three entry level Dovos. All three had issues making them harder to set a good bevel than the recent production from Gold Dollar. And yet, I don't sense any hate for them even though they cost what... about $80 retail these days? (I'm not talking about nicer Dovos, no problem with them. I own 4 Dovo Bismarcks and love them.) Like I said, I did not start this thread as a platform for discussing the quality, past or present, of these razors. It seems everyone else wants to discuss them, though. All I wanted to do was announce that I am selling them and that for a particular market segment, they are a viable choice. So are you up to trying one of mine at no risk? I will even send a raw one for you to put to the hones yourself. No skin off my nose. My supplier for 66 lets me have them with free shipping for $3.71 each, for 20 or more. They are not the same razor that they were 10 years ago. The spine could still be a little thinner, yeah. But now, pretty much all of them will accept a proper bevel without resorting to power tools and 60 grit. I have shaved with these razors for about 20 years now, and yeah at one time getting one truly shave ready was a laborious process, especially for the poor model 66. And they are still beefy enough that you could take one to the grinders and make it better than it is. But they shave fine if they are well honed.

A good vintage is a better starter razor. That should be no surprise when said vintage cost, new, a couple days wages for a working man. Finding one that is in good shape and shave ready is like the holy grail for a wannabe straight shaver, though. It is getting harder and harder to find a good starter razor for under $40 or so. You can do it, easy. I can do it, easy. A beginner can't. He doesn't know what he is looking at or looking for. He can stake out BST forums and if he is ready to pounce on that sweet deal, and he is very patient, yeah he can get in the game pretty cheap, but the good deals get snapped up quick, and the leavings are razors that apparently their sellers love too much to let go to a noob for $20 or $30, in absolutely shave ready condition.

If you sell new razors or have an interest in supporting sellers of new (other than Chinese) razors, you should be glad that I am selling these razors. They are at a price where a working man doesn't mind throwing the dice and giving straight shaving a try. And it is obvious after a couple months in, that a second razor of higher quality is a smart upgrade. You will find guys all over the forums who started this way and now own multiple Solingen blades, high priced Swedish or Sheffield vintages, even artisanal or custom blades. Gold Dollars are the gateway drug, so to speak.

If you are ready to try a new 66, let me know. I won't make this offer again on this forum or to anyone else or anywhere else. You won't be impressed, but you will be surprised.

From this point on I will not even reply to the naysayers walking all over my thread trashing my product without even trying one. My product can sink or swim as it will and I can't make the hate go away with just words. There will be no war here because I will not fight here. I will reply to questions and I will occasionally announce new products.

Funny thing... according to the rules, discussion of Gold Dollars was all moved to one thread. And that thread is CLOSED LOL! I see that the rule has not been enforced in the last several years so moot point, I guess. But it would be nice if declarations that these razors are garbage when proof to the contrary is out there for as little as $4.17 last time I checked, were kept off this thread. But hey, I got thick skin. I can take it.
