Thanked: 12Yeah, Johnnie's vid tipped me over, and I got a Dovo Special from Lynn. Thing is, all these guys making vids make it look really, really easy. That should be a clear message that it isn't. I thought a patchy 1 pass was a realistic expectation for my first straight shave, and I failed. Still do.
Given the time it takes me, I can only try on evenings and weekends, and always have to do my chin and neck with my DE. It's a tough skill to learn. That's what can make it worth it. I don't know yet if it is.
THe German guy is good. I can't see why anyone is negative about that vid. Not everyone treats shaving as a deferential ritual of technique and pampering. Jim Furyk is a golfer renowned for having everything wrong with his technique; once likened to being like an octopus falling out of a tree, or a man trying to kill a snake in a phone booth. But it works for him and he makes big money on the USPGA.
As for it being sped up? A touch of envy instead, perhaps? A wobbly camera hardly implies fudging.

I forgot that willie's vid was of a two-pass shave. Anyway, here's my latest quickie shave. This was a test-shave for a razor I honed the night before, it held up well

Yes I do know that most of us enjoy the process of the shave and have no inkling to run through it as quick as one can - besides that it's important to be confident, careful, and not sloppy with a sharp blade. Still, this was fun for me to watch again on video and thought it should go here if anywhere on the forum
PS but it took another 5 minutes to clean up the wound above my chin which I incurred when my eyebrows went up at 0:54Last edited by hoglahoo; 07-17-2010 at 01:50 PM.

I call this German guy a man, even if he's showy and a tiny bit careless. Straight shaving has a lot of showmanship about it, does it not?

Just a small correction, the bloke in the original video is Swiss, not German. It would be a bit like saying someone from Britian is Australian. The language and accents may be similar but they are different countries with there own national idiosycrasies.

I'm a newbie and it was one of the first ones I saved to my computer to watch and learn. I saw many techniques in there I was doing wrong, and although I've only been 2 weeks into shaving with Straight Razor, I found this amazing. I saved it to "My Videos" in another folder I have called "Razors" Watch it now and then. Willie has a second video of him shaving with kind of country music in the background and I saved it as well. I'm surprised he had not nicked off his mole on his face.
Too bad that he's not in here anymore.
