This the way I used to shave when I was a teenager but I can no longer do it that fast or that confident. I just resumed a couple of months ago after a long hiatus though. Perhaps one day...

Thanked: 278Nicely done Willi, I'm new to straight razors and it takes me half an hour to get the same results.

Actually you might want to skip that video if you are offended by strong language, dropping straight razors on the floor, or using 8-inch kitchen knives to half open jiffy bags then yanking the final bit open while still holding the knife towards your face!

That looked scary, like he might lop an ear off :|
And i agree with whoever said that about him not having a high end razor.. his kitchen was his shaving area, his shaving area was also his living room.

Willi,
I've seen this post a while ago prior to your joining the discussion. I think you performed a very well done shave. WIlli! Some of us here get lost in the journey to a good shave because we enjoy every aspect of the journey, myself included. I doing so our set of assumptions turn into our 'rules' and our journey is altered. Your method of shaving is very 'meat and potatoes', 'where the rubber meets the road', 'get er done!' style and is something for me to aspire to. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy all of the fuss and pampering that can be associated with straight razor shaving but that should be just the perks of the process. You have deviantly mastered the art of straight razor shaving with the tools you have available and exceeded many of expectations of straight shaving that I have 'learned'. I applaud your skill and hope that some day I will be able to shave with the confidence you demonstrated in this video. I'm sure that there are many of us here that feel the same way.

In line with what JoeD said, that's great if it works for you. For me, shaving is less about removing the hair from my face and more about enjoying a great shave. If shaving was just about getting the hair off, I would likely aspire to shave with your speed. Let us remember that what is reckless to one may be quite safe for another (consider stropping speeds, for example).

That isn't even hard, I really do need to post that shave so you can see for yourself. I usually do 5 passes with 20 laps inbetween each in under 40 mins, with beardprep and lather and 100 laps before beginning.
BTW, thanks for the vid Willi, I learned some nice things from your video, esp. the grip you use when you go up your neck, works really well!
