Very cool, Mark! I seem to remember a discussion where we decided razors that ornately and fully-etched were likely made for one of many exhibitions back in the day. It will be lovely as you deal with the back side.
Gee, some light work around the etch and getting a bevel is all the front should need?
What shall you do for scales?
Scales,,,,, hmmmm ,,, translucent horn to show off the etch? Maybe not perfectly but nice.
That cherub reminds me of a carving I did recently for a killer house in NY. 50,000 sq ft.
I’ll have to play around to see just how to accent the etch for full effect. The darkness , just as I’m carving , adds to the depth and visual pop.
Here is the carving sharptonn . I did 2 panels that went over staircases . Approx. 2 1/2 ‘ X 4’
Carved out of 1 piece except for a bit added to the lip of the urn to make it a little fuller.
Very Nice! The leaves off the bottom. Did you add those or are they part of the base wood?
Over the top!
TBH, I like a bit of the black patina down in the reliefs of my silver.
It does make the top pop, as it were!
A mess I have gotten into.....Perhaps to pin tomorrow?

Yes. Sorry. In addition to the urn the leaves that spill over the edge were added as well. Easier than carving down the entire edge!
Wow mark that is really impressive. I am curious how you will approach this one. I think if it were mine I would toss it into the vibrating tumbler with walnut and rubbing compound, after that went around until the from was more or less clean, I would sand and buff the other areas of the blade as needed, finishing off the blade face by bluing it and then highlighting the low spots by gently sanding the high areas with 2k+ sand paper and a little 0000 steel wool. I know you know what you are doing, and with everything here, you’ll have your own path, and I am very curious about how you will proceed. Often we have a plan of attack and then get a different idea as we go.
Looks like the end is near for that one Tom.
That Elliot is going to look great in the MOP. Those scales are awesome.
