I used some mineral oil and my vacuum setup to impregnate some of Shaun's bone blanks that were too hard to carve . While it didn't help enough to make them carve-able, it really did make that bone attractive.
I used a 'Light Mineral Oil' from Amazon that's actually used for veterinarian usage.
Anyway I'm sure that those scales are going to be outstanding! :tu
Dang Shaun, your scrimshaw is really good!!
You are definitely upping your game
So I pulled the seals and still some areas which need to soak more.
While I wait, a Spike project! :D
I found a pristine Spike a while back. So very plain in yellow Celluloid.
Another with some wear and pitting had the green scales. A bit smaller, but hey!
It fits!
Plan is to unpin the green ones and clean/polish a bit. Blue the tang and do the stamps in gold rubNbuff, some in the hot-stamp of the scales there.
Pin it back up with Austin's small brass collars.
Swag Spike? Here goes!

Nice Spike you got there. I have the same spike scales on a Spike. Love the green!
And the Scrim is very cool Rez. Nice job.
I got home late last night from the trip to CA to visit my dad. Had a good time and helped him with lots of projects around the house. Got up this morning and had the day off to relax before going back to the truck tomorrow morning so I thought I'd make a couple scales for two razors that were close to finished. These two still need the fine hand sanding, finish coating and honed but I thought I'd show what I got so far.

The W&B is closing on center very badly so I got to figure out something with that and I got confused and got my scale blanks switched so the Clauss ended up with the nicer grain on the back scale. Oh well, Its all for fun.
Couple more pics...
You can see how far off center the W&B is plus the job that was done on the wedges. My wedges are getting better all the time...

Have you got washers between the scales and tang, Jerry?
Yep! Sure do. And the scales are straight plus I drilled the holes for the pins with a drill press so I'm sure they are straight too. One thing I did just think of was, when I got this razor, someone had stuck a brass bushing in the over-sized pivot hole. The blade looks pretty straight too. Guess I could take the bushing out and see what happens.
Put a length of rod through the top holes with the bottom bolted-up.
Rod straight? look from side and from top.

Got this old boar knot toar out of this Rubberset 3 last night. Little bit of a pain, but no match for some new Irwin bits.
