Ya, it's not easy getting all those pieces 100% flat, and also both sides parrelel to each other. If they're not, it'll show when your cuts on the lathe aren't parrelel with the joints. Things start to look real sloppy if it's not glued up properly.
Those dang octagonal sections took me a bit to lay out and sand down. Pain in the rear! :)
