I got lucky with that one. The guy had it up for a bin at $299 at first but then it ended & he put it up for auction. I got it for less than a Benjamin! It's a gorgeous smiler..................

Currently working on making a travel strop - similar to this one. I'll be using stained oak wood, brass fittings but not the bar stock for turning the tension screw - just a knurled brass thumbscrew instead. Having trouble sourcing the leather - tandy leather has some 2 inch strips of cowhide but the thickness is around 7/64 to 9/64 or 7 - 9 oz. They call it premium leather but I can't actually touch it on line. I also got some half round bar brass stock instead of straight brass bar stock for the internal piece of brass to which the leather is attached. They've routed out the razor on the inside for storage but I think I will make mine square to hold a leather straight razor sheath I have instead of trying to accommodate the different sizes and shapes of razors I may pack. Haven't started building yet - I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Just finished my part of this collab project and pinned this bad boy. Bocote scales finished in NC lacquer, left unsanded on the final coat. Matte look brings out the awesomeness that is the grain of this wood.

Very nice.
Your right, the wood id awsome.
At first look, it reminded my of deer antler.
Again very nice[emoji106]
Very nice. I'm usually not a fan of Bocote wood, but that piece looks really nice. It is one of a few woods that I have a hard time finding pieces that I like.
Yeah, you're right. It varies greatly. The other side is even nicer IMO, I think it's got a little bit of burl going on. Might be hard to see, but I'm thinking close to the far end there, in the yellow area.. looks kind of like smudging in the wood.
Thanks for your kind words gentlemen.

Just made a set based on the same model strop. Take a look and maybe get some tips.
Cheers.

Finally got a Wade and Butcher FBU. But needs a lot of work.

Looks like it was ground on a stone or brick in it's day, scales are worm eaten, and two of the stacked washers are gone.
But it's 7/8th still, heaviest razor I've held in my own hand and certainly got enough steel to clean up again. Not sure about the engravings yet, they hopefully will survive depending on how deep some of those gouges are.
I have some honey horn I have been saving, may see if the two work together once I get this looking prettier, if possible.
Anyway, will post the results, good, bad, or scratchy..
Cheers.
