That's a beauty Rez! And with a musk ox display stand.. Nice!

Musk ox is one of those materials that I want to get ahold of but keep reading horror stories about how hard it is to work with and maintain.
A buddy of mine had a skull with horns. Will sell it to me when I get the money together. Which is a long way away.
But I'd be very hesitant to cut it down myself.

    Dang Tom!
I doubt there is another collection out there as nice as you have assembled.

So I have a question about a 7 day set of razors - Do all the blades and scales have to match or can you have seven different blades with same scales? Or can you just have 7 different razors (blades and scales) in a box with each different razor designated for each day of the week? Why does it matter?

I think a true 7 day set should be idential with days of the week

Does not matter to me! I do think all 7 might have something in common. Just a box with 7 razors in it, really....
A bit of variety is good, IMO.

I have not had the focus or attention to get seven of anything matching together. I think I am close by having seven razors of the same brand.
Looks good Tom. All looking pretty side by side. To the hones next I suppose. Mine honed up and shaved a treat, I suspect you have a whole week of different blissful shaves ahead.
Mike, the stand was made for me as a gift from the late Bill Barber.

    I like sets of razors!
Matching or not. A theme feels right to me, but if I was going on a trip, I think I'd want variety...

    Indeed. Why does it matter?

Don’t quote me on this, but I think at one time the notion of resting a razor was promoted as a way of getting the absolute most from your steel. As such, using a different razor every day ensured that your blades indeed did rest.

Of course just like today, many men couldn’t afford a seven day set that had identical everything. So this became a way to differentiate yourself from the poor masses. Just like an expensive car or an expensive watch differentiates you. So aside from the practical reasons behind resting a razor - pomp enters into this picture as it enters into every picture.

I’m pretty sure the resting thing has been proven to be a little silly, but the pomp of it hasn’t. Ideally, a seven day set would have consecutive serial numbers if straights had serial numbers. But you get what I mean.

I am in the midst of scaling up 7 of my favorite 4/8s right now. They are all from different manufacturers and time periods. So it’s not going to be a classic or traditional 7 day set. But I’m going to love it all the same.

    To explain the sickness, John......
A Box of 7 razors. All similarly scaled in lined pearl with 7 6/8 notched American blades from 7 different makers.

Did you make this set Tom? I find it interesting that the scales are all the same size and not fitted to the blades.

So far, between my 7 I’m looking at close to about 1/2 inch difference in length between the longest and shortest (pivot hole to end). I don’t know if I’m going to shorten the scales at the pivot to compensate or not.

If you made this set, why didn’t you? I’m genuinely curious if there is a reason to or not to do it.

PS. That’s a nice looking set!

Because you dont ruin 100 year old MOP scales? "No matter how many times I cut this, its still too short!"
