16 oz is a lot. I have had my bottle for a long time and the end is not in sight.
I have also used bluing.
I got a wee bit of razor time in today. I have hated the scales I made for my Herder 76, so today I swapped them out. I will have to touch it up before I can shave with it but I think it is a fantastic home for my snack attack scales.

You've got to do a set of Kraken scales Shaun!
That’s a sweet set of skins on that herder Shaun, you do such naturally beautiful work buddy.
I applauded your style.
:beer1:
Looks GREAT!
You never know on those NOS Herders, Shaun.
Some need a complete bevel-set like the 76 I put into the Octopus's Garden scales.
Some just need a little. I guess when they halted production, everything is as it was.
Been playing with forcing a patina on brass, I'm to impatient to wait for nature I guess. Cleaned up a piece of brass stock and started messing with some chemicals. I was hoping the home stuff would work, but no dice. Went to some of the etchants I have access to at work. Some actually left a patina, some did nothing. The pics below are the brass with just the etchant, then after a bit of 0000 steel wool, and finally a bit of MAAS polish. The etchants from left to right were lemon juice, white vinegar (10 -15 % acetic acid), Turner's reagent, Davis reagent, Griffins reagent, Fry's reagent, 99% acetic acid, ferric chloride, acidified ferric chloride, 5-10% nitric acid, phosphoric acid with 3-5% nitric acid, 25% nitric acid, and finally 37% hydrochloric acid. I kind of like the Fry's reagent (sixth from the left) and the ferric chloride (eighth from the left). I think it will get the collars matching the blade of the Packwood I've been stalling on.

Sharpton: That big ol Stenton is going to look great in those incredible Rezdog scales:dropjaw:. Can't wait to see the finished product of both your talents.
Rezdog: That scrimshaw looks really cool and goes well with the blade. Well done:rock:
From my experiences in life--unless you find a way to 'seal' that artificial finish--Mother Nature is going to change it and 'Might Do So' even if you do seal it.
Just my thoughts--

I fully expect you're correct, just playin' around. Maybe I'll get something interesting in the end.
I have a personal problem with the idea of a forced/false patina.
Sort of like purposely rusting and fading a car to make it look old. I hope that is a good example!:rofl2:
If you have something old preserve it to the best of your ability or grind away the rust etc. if necessary to make it the best that can be saved.
To build something new and make it look old is a forgery.
Just my thoughts...........
