My experiences with the 3M metal polish are similar. A smooth clothes or chamois is best. I and a couple others have found that using the original amount of polish and continuing to buff will and does give a superior finish. It seems that . . . like pumice, it breaks down into finer particles.

Decided to unpin the Boker, that I picked up last Wednesday, for a clean up and replace the broken scale.

As I was searching for a replacement scale, I remembered I had a few sets somewhere, that were still pinned at the wedge. One set was a perfect match, and Bakelite to boot.
So a bit of 3M on the blade, and Starbrite Plastic scratch remover on a leather wheel in the dremmel, for the scales.
Pinned with original collars, nickle/silver rod.
Followed by a spritz of Plexus plastic cleaner protectant and polish.

That is sweet, Mike! Good old Bokers are rare.
Reckon cel or ivory on the tang?
I have one of those in some psychedelic scales, no covered tang. AND some scales like those.
Time to build one, I think?
Mine won't be! ;)
Tonight was the Torrey.
Unpinned the pivot only, cleaned and polished the scales.
Cut the active rust off the blade, with a SE razor blade, then a bit of 3M on my magic underwear, and some extended Steve Austin.
Wasn't quite satisfied, so I came back with CR/OX on the magic rag, with a touch of oil. Then a rub with Maas.
Pinned with brass rod, and original collars.
