There it is.! Ready to move up the grits.

Hone wear sanded out, grind lines back in place, pits removed, blade surface smoothed out.







Whew..!! That was some sandin.!! Guess you could call it a regrind, kinda.

There was a lot of undercutting and smoothing out with circles and spine to edge sanding, ending with toe to heal sanding.

Now I can turn this thing over.....and do it again.

In razor related news, I'm making damascus billets for another razor maker and finishing up some commissions. I have too many plans and not enough time. I'll start posting some pictures of my own projects to stay motivated to make progress. My own projects have a tendency to disappear to the background. There's some stuff I have been working on for ages.

Actually I guess this belongs in restoration and custom built thread but I have been posting about this one for a while. I just took the scales out of the neatsfoot and finished the reground Wade & Butcher FBU.



I believe this to be a factory regrind, mainly because of the crispness and accuracy of the stabilizer but also because it is a bellied hollow. Either it is factory or very well done private work. Either way this completes the trifecta.


A little more polishing to do and the scales on the others need some resaturation but altogether I'm pleased. My plan is to make a wooden coffin shaped coffin box to fit all three then it up for sale as a lot.

You and me both. I intend to sell them and then get attached to them. I guess I need to think of them the way I used to think of my chickens.

My intent to sell, is later down the road, I'm enjoying all my labor, first. Of course there will be a few I just can't let go of....like a hundred or so.

Hell, I keep giving them away just to keep the pile from running onto the floor.

But I figured I'd chime in on the Wosty progress.

I finished the back side to 1000 grt. and taped it off to do the show side. A lot more work than the other side to get the hone wear sanded out, and the grind lines back, especially at the toe of the spine.

Little by little, and a trash can full of used up sandpaper strips, its finally coming together.



I've been checking where the hone wear is by making a few passes with a DMT, leaves a nice guide line to follow, just below it.




Still more sanding to do, but at least I've established an even line below the spine again. Visually.

I tell ya what....that was the most corrective sanding I care to ever deal with, by hand.

Hone wear is still there, but should hone up fine with some strategic taping.

Sanded the blade faces out to 1000 grit, and left with a satin/brushed finish. Spine, tang and tail to 1000 grt., then rubbed out with crocus cloth.

Not prefect by no means, but sure is much more visually appealing, again. Ready to pin up for tomorrow. My hands are too sore for me to feel comfortable pinning tonite, and were ahead of schedule, so a small break is in order beforehand.

Bloody hell Mike. That's some great work done in short time. That heavy hand sanding can really pummel the hands, wrists and arms. There's something about bringing back to life a 150+ year old razor that makes it all worth while. Great stuff.
