I can still steal it off the screen. Maybe fatter? Thanks for the pic Mike. Boy, thats a tiny wedge. Good idea. why make it any longer than it needs to be.Last edited by Gasman; 08-02-2017 at 11:03 PM.

Been starring at this blade and I'm starting to think I might not be able to get a smile on it with the flat section in the middle. Maybe I need to round it from end to end?
One of you more experienced gentlemen let me know if I'm think correctly on this. I haven't done a lot of honing on smiles just yet.
I'm liking the shape of yours Mike. Who knows. It might be a week or two before I get this done. Or maybe tomorrow. Ha.Last edited by Gasman; 08-02-2017 at 11:29 PM.

Look in the library, Jerry.
A rolling Xstroke. Heal forward, toe slightly off the hone. Do your Xstroke while gradually lifting the heel, ending on the toe at the end of the pass. I find it a lot easier to hone a smiler, over a straight.Mike

Ive been working on that Mike. Its getting there. Im just thinking maybe i need a bit less of a straight spot in the blade. Its almost rounded now from end to end so maybe when the honing happens it will work itself out.

Thanked: 4826Hey Jerry when you are designing scales you need to remember that the the pivot of the scales needs to be of similar width as the tang, so it is easy to hold and flip. I have no idea if you kept that in mind or if you just got lucky with your design. I thought this might be a good time to mention it.
If your stroke it correct you can make it smile. I think you have this one under control. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

If I may, the point in the scales at the pivot seems long.
Also, the angle it is taking might also make it uncomfortable to strop or hone.
That is why we mock them up, I suppose!

Yes Shaun. I did know this but its still nice that you got my back. Thankyou.
Sharptonn, thankyou for your input. It was just a quick drawing. But i see what you mean. I will think about this some more for sure. I was thinking of the 270% possition while shaving but didnt take into account the rest of them. Good point!
I looked thru my stock of blanks for scales and think ill be going with a blue inlace acrylic. It's just Sharpening, right?
