I use the same DMT 325 for Everything. I see no need to spend unnecessary funds. I do scrub it well under running water and liquid dish soap quite often and with some Bar Keepers Friend and some liquid dish soap every once in awhile to clean it up/it will accumulate swarf/at least in my experience.
I've actually considered buying the DMT 600 as a 'step-up' from the 325 and before the 1K level/it would have come in handy for this project. While I've never tried it, the 600 'might also' be useful for sharpening kitchen knives. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

That sounds logical. I just didn't know if any of the hardened steel would eventually put wear on the 325 but I guess not. I could even use the 600 for a finer finish before moving over to the stones.

I, too, use the dmt 325 for everything. It's my workhorse. Until I buy a chosera 1k that is.

I think that DMT 325 will be good for a few things I need to do. I have a lot of razors but a few have not so perfect blade edges. I also have a Dorko blade I bought as a blank and it is hard to work but the diamond will be perfect for it!

Nothing lasts forever. The 325 will wear and mine has, I believe that at the Spokane Meet Glen jokenly referred to his 325 as a ''525'.
While I've never tried it and I would hope that those with more experience and knowledge than I have will help out on this but I've read where some like to use something like a 600 to lap their synthetic hones instead of the 325. I can see where this would reduce wear but I can't imagine how it would effect the honing process. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Antler scales. The inside is infinitely more interesting, but no way to get the outside flat, will make blade to suite due to awkward shape of the shed.
