Yes, I have to reduce them. Not a big deal to do so, but not sure I want them on that blade yet. May save them for a larger blade.

That's my initial thought. I have a nice set of Koa Hawaiian wood scales that is about the right size for that OVB blade.
Anyway, that's next week. Right now, finishing the Yankee Wedge.
Thanks for the opinion. Most likely will put the MOP scales aside for now.

You got that right. And it can go so fast. You are shaving it down bit by bit and if you are not careful, the scales go from too large to too small very quickly. Then you sit there at the workbench saying "Oh Damn" or worse. That's happend to me before, so I am very careful on reducing scales to fit a blade. Once you shave them down, as you say, you can't put it back on.
I don't have any blades that those MOP scales will fit as is, but no hurry. Some day the right blade will come along. For now, I'll start thinking about putting the Hawaiian Koa scales on the OVB blade. I wanted them for the Solingen, but the Solingen blade is even smaller than that OVB, so I'll have to think of something else for the Solingen.
But no hurries, no worries. I have to save SOMETHING to work on over the winter!

Chabrol a Paris, the satisfying conclusion of the saga
I have a 6/8" razor, marked Chabrol a Paris, got it with my Henry Sears (wedge with a crazy spine that narrows towards the end despite having no hone wear). Back here:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...rking-920.html
Old Henry is a favorite nowadays, and for weeks I have occasionally been working on the French razor when I've had time. It started like this:
and this:
So I reshaped the scales as described here:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...ml#post1759569
I added some epoxy to fill in the bug bites:
Shaped it, soaked in mineral oil for a week:
I was feeling pretty good when they came out looking like this:
But if you look carefully you'll notice that the scales are of different lengths. In fact, the holes aren't really aligned either. Now you see, over the years I've absorbed probably a gallon of WD-40 through my pores and gotten too many knocks on the head so I didn't actually notice that. I just went ahead and did a trial assembly with screws, but they were too loose for me to see what was really going on, and then I really pinned it and the scales were warped.
So, ground off the pins, filled in the hole with epoxy-based wood filler.
Drilled in the right place:
Now it centers:
Had a couple of little chips but they came off on the 1K. The blade is slightly warped and of course it's a smiling wedge but with rolling strokes it honed up fine:
Had a really nice shave! Here it is on a paddle strop afterwards.
I love the shape for getting into hollows in my chin and neck. Really a keeper.Last edited by jmabuse; 08-31-2017 at 12:01 AM.
