Thanked: 26Need your help on this one fellas. I recently found this illinois strop #835. I've cleaned and neatsfoot oiled it and it strops nice. The linen side feels like it's really stiff and almost waxy. Any info I can find on the 835 says it cow hide but this is a horse hide. Any info?

Finished pinning the #74 in the Cocobolo scales this evening.
Two sleeves and the pin for the front hole.
Pin filled in the hole very well and i was able to get it nice and flat. Great idea Tom, Thanks!!
No finish.. just went with Howards Feed & Wax and Ren Wax.
Cocobolo, Aluminum Spacer, Black vulcanized fiber with a CA coat, and a Holly spacer.
Ready for the stones.
Tom thanks again for this razor. Its a sweet feeling blade in the hand and cant wait to hone it right up.
I think i may have another Henckels around here somewhere that needs a set of scales..

Thanked: 250Cheferik, your strop looks very similar to my Illinois 6454 except mine doesn't have handles. The linen on mine was dirty and greasy when I got it so I washed in the washing machine on gentle and let it air dry. It came out clean with no shrinkage. I dressed the linen with a chunk of plumber's lead. I always assumed the linen was fire hose because it is a tube. Regardless, I really like it and the draw on the leather is glass smooth.

Thanked: 26I originally thought of fire hose but it's a single sheet.it's also very rigged, stiff. It works well but I'm use to my dovo linen strop.

May I have my razor back now?
Looks awesome.
I was secretly hoping you would have done the front hole, long tang thing!
