Thread: What are you working on?

Cleaning a couple centuries of crud off of this bad boy. I've just gone over it with a toothpick and everything you see on the paper came off of it. Probably just going to do a pretty light clean up on this one. Blade is far from centered in the ivory scales and I'm debating weather or not to try correcting them.

So i was snagging my SOTD/Test Shave pic and i figured id take a close up and ask..
Is this too much grind on the stabilizer?
The heel is sharp.. popping hairs (im about to test shave it so ill really know) but i definitely did grind that stabilizer when honing this blade.
I have a few other razors that look similar.
Is this a honing faux pas?

I wouldn't sweat it yet, see how it shaves. I've got a few, that are honed like that, just watch for heal hooks. [emoji6]

Thanked: 4827It looks like you managed to hone the heel without creating a heel hook, so you are ok for now, but it is unlikely that you are going to be able to do it again. he next time it is up for honing just fix it then. When you are fixing the heel there is always a risk of bumping the edge just a little, and it would be a shame to mess up a fresh hone job.

It is a tough call on trying to repair how that blade closes those scales are likely a tad on the brittle side and it would be a shame for anything to happen to happen to them. A though might be to wedge the blade over just a tad, because that is likely all it need, give the scales a little soak in some light mineral oil and see if a few day of that helps them work better. How old do you think that frameback is?It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Couple W&B and a Fred Reynolds. The Plan is to scale the American razor with ebony with a brass wedge. This one had a ton on corrosion and Devils spit on the tip I got it as far as I could I think it shined up nice. it's ready just need to finish scales.
The other two ill just clean just up and hone. The Gentlemans Favorite has some home wear but it should be okay.
