That post was the one that inspired me to do that 7 day set last year Tom..
And save that inlay Mike!
:tu
I see B52 being busy on that one? Gotta save the inlay!
Oh! Yeah, That!
It's very thin! I have a lot of pitting but it looks like I can clean it up and still have a good shaver. And if not, you can't revive them all!
This is a pic before I started working on it, don't mind the wade and butcher in this picAttachment 231211here is the pic of the puma you wanted outback. The wade is another one that's on the bench
Not a razor project but I figure you guys should appreciate it. I was given this nice scrimshaw box last year and wanted to do something with it. It's too small for a razor box so I decided to make it into a Bluetooth speaker. It'll live in the bathroom so I can rock out while taking care of the three S's. Found a nice Bluetooth circuit board that's piggybacked on an amplifier that should make it a pretty easy project. It'll be powered with an 18650 lithium ion battery that should keep it playing a few hours between charges. Everything will be mounted on some Bolivian Rosewood that I had sitting around.

Totally appreciate that BJ, nice idea to make that into a Bluetooth speaker. Frikkin sweet man..

And on lays work too Mike, done a few that way myself..look forward to the results amigo..

Working on my GTO this weekend ...hoping to get it all done and back on the road by May 1 st ..after its winters nap....new tail light panel, painting some Rally II wheels, new Dynomax mufflers, remove Windsheild and back glass and reseal, brake booster, rebuild leaky steering box.installing a rear sway bar and boxed in trailing arms, some dash knobs, and a kicked up sound system ..to play old Period Correct tunes !!!http://i1327.photobucket.com/albums/...psvicybpil.jpg
I can make the puma look better, as long as it shaves I'm happy! Pictures of this will be the next up. Good, bad or in different.
Got Alan's razor apart, inlay polished, and soaking in lacquer thinner . I believe he couldn't have picked a better time to have this done, for the scales were just starting to break down.
Everytime time I tried to unpinn, or cut the scales, they would shatter like glass (very brittle).

A slow walk through an Antique Store, Paid too much! But it may get to a good home! A side project; should I wish to complete the entire stand. I have to make a complete mirror assembly and get it and the stand re-plated. Then I need to find a home for it! " Be careful who you help, you become responsible for them!"
Shaving Stand Mid 1870's Silver plated Reed and Barton shaving stand.
Before...the item was actually blue black with tarnish:

And after a couple hours of polishing:

Kind of a nice piece about 12+ inches high. Fanciest I have ever seen.
?????? Finish it myself or sell to someone with the bucks to do a great job of it??????
~Richard
After several hours of soaking in lacquer thinner, the inlay is off.
Attachment 231291
Next.... Making a template for the scales from a paint stick, and a traceing from another set of scales.
Then cut the scales from African Blackwood.

I figure this wood should make the inlay more visible.
Making another Brush out of soap stone. My carving skill need improving but practice can. Only make me better ( I hope). I have completed the basic shape going to finish off tomorrow. I just popped the knot in to see what it looks like. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b499f8af1a.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f4c2116689.jpg
I have this, Richard. Needs cleaning and polishing, the bracket is bent. Beveled mirror looks good.

Want it?
Been to the craft store and the fabric store. Here is the box, I got it off Ebay. A sorta arts and crafts thing, someone glued pieces and strips of what looks to me like horn and bone. Tried to get a picture.....
Attachment 231305Attachment 231306Attachment 231307Attachment 231308
Anyhoo, went out in back and raided the dumpster of the millwork shop. I buy very little wood. They toss LOTS!
Attachment 231309
The size of the box does not lend it'self to the traditional format. I suppose that is par for this set. :)
They will be arranged as such. Think I shall use some of the pile-O-pins from babur's collars which are stainless to make separators/locators for each razor. Need to find some thin foam padding...
Attachment 231310
Tom, what don't you have laying around?
Well....I don't have a strop-sock from this material, Richard! :roflmao
Scales are cut, screwed, and clamped together, with a piece of paper and a couple drops of elmers glue. On to the sander to sand the edges even, once the glue has dried.
Attachment 231314Attachment 231315Attachment 231316
Well, I found a nice set of laminated green scales from an old Torrey in my pile which fit my Atta Boy really good.
Figured to pin that together with some salvaged double-stacks. Turned out good.....What's THAT?
Left a spacer out! :banghead:
Attachment 231317
Back apart (sigh), saved the collars and did it again! Still turned up nice! :)
Attachment 231318
Should be great for a St Patrick's day shave next week!
Bill, you may need to get a c.......................never mind.............it's when the doctor has a look around with a camera!
See? I still can't see! Been bumping into the walls all day long.
Did you really contact SenorSteve Tom? If so, I'm always glad to be of some help.
My friend, I think I know what caused the problem of the spacer being left out. :w

Thank you! What diameter is it?? For the stand, it should go about 6." If so...Yes...perfect!! The vertical post and cradle will be an easy job! I dreaded having to design and build a cranked tool to form the rim on a new store bought mirror; could have hammer formed it but..more hours than I wish to spend...
Cheers
~Richard
Edges have been sanded eaven, and I'm callin it quits for tonight. Tomorrow I'll make the wedge from brass, and get the scales thinned to somewhere around .083-.085", and bevel the edges.
Attachment 231326
Now its time for chicken fajitas and a movie, and for desert... A little something for show and tell.[emoji6]
This evening i am putting a finish on these Blue Mahoe scales for a W&B Extra Hollow.
I decided to try using the Tru-oil on these. I think they need to bottle that smell in a cologne.
Attachment 231328
Its not oily at all, very light, and very stiff. I figured this would be a good one for the tru-oil for those reasons. I gave it a good dousing in mineral spirits before i started to finish it.
I think they should rename it 'Grey Ass Wood' because that's what it looks like to me.
Same dude on ebay i got the Wenge from.
Still a cool looking wood.
Has a nice tight grain.
Looks strong.
Gentlemen, I showed some pics of a puma I wanted to clean up and get ready for a bevel. There was a lot wrong with this thing. I'm happy to say I think It's pretty ( for what it was) you can still see how fubared it was but it shined up nice. I couldn't take off to much like one person said the Pumas are thin.
