Looks straight to me.
I believe the curve in the edge is the result of stropping by earlier owners.
I had to use an X stroke on my stones to get an edge.

I see that you subscribe to Al Bundy's school of "NEVER CLEAN THE GRILL"!

:D
Oh it gets cleaned....once a year. Thats when the next cow gets put in the freezer.
Yep..usually buy a whole cow every year. Last one cost me $2.30 a pound, including processing.
Ya cant even buy crap hamburg for that. Got two upright freezers to pack it in. Almost 1000 pounds of meat
Last week I packed my freezers with steer and hog. Killed , cut, and wrapped the critters myself.:)
The one side is broke in 3 pieces and was held together with string when I got it. I decided that to go with the Rat razor look I needed something different. What you see is Antique automobile wire. I took one strand of the copper out of a box of old auto junk. 4 grooves in the scales and it actually holds well. The bevel is clean despite the rest.
I should make it my travel razor because no maid I know of is going to steal it! :rofl2:
Not much for cattle around here. I have a freezer full of mostly halibut, salmon and prawns, with a we smackeral of herring spawn on kelp. Clams and crab I usually cook and eat fresh, they are around most of the year and not super high in my diet.
We all have to eat what we can get or get cheap, except for those that have crazy money I guess, but that is not me.
After you guys showing some interest with this project other than is my tetanus shot up to date. :p I dug it out and took some closer pictures. Some people look at these old homemade repairs and toss them in the trash. I like to think of the back story. Maybe a farmhand snowed in in the winter dropped his razor and broke the scales. If he did get to town he didn't have the money to buy a new set of scales. he had to make do with what he had. Maybe he wouldn't bother to shave except for the 3 times a year he went to town. My imagination tends to run wild and I digress again!
hard to see but in this first one at about 5:45 you may see the second crack.

Now that's what I call character!
Kinda reminds ya of the wrapping of arrow heads, with sinew
Got the wedge tapered and a quick test fit, before work this morning Attachment 231795Attachment 231796
Curved which direction?? Smiles good frowns bad. Get that piece of copper out, repeen. and then take a look at it. Might have bone scales, Neetsfeet oil and a gentle buffing will fix that up quick. Pictures good. Nice true wedge. You know what that means with regards to honing??
Library, How to hone a true wedge.
Its a whole different animal. Thats why the pro say " Call for Quote". Because it takes longer, more detail orientated process.
Once you do one, you will understand. Short of that set a couple of hours aside for the first honing session.
Hi
Definate smile tho minor.
The scales might be horn.
The edge came up to a shave able condition fairly quickly with an X pattern hone on a 10K stone.
A work inprogress. I will shave in 3 days. I am not cutting myself at all most times but.
I am useing a shave oil under a light lather.
That works good for mee.
I think the scales are definitely horn.
An x-pattern is proper for any blade, but on ones with a smile, a 'rolling-X' is the way to keep things even.
Do a forum search on the subject and you will find many threads about it.
Smiling blades are very effective and comfortable shavers, no doubt.
