Richard, I believe the thickness is a few milometers past just thick enough. :)
I have no idea. It's a stainless steel pot that's 5" deep, and 10" in diameter. Tonight I was pulling a full -30 of mercury, but usually I'm around -29. Not sure why it's different tonight. Done a few dozen vacs now and the pot is still in perfect shape.
I tossed one of those old pressure cookers a while back.
Thought of this as soon as it hit the bottom of the barrel! :D
Ya, if it was a thick walled pot, could have made a nice little chamber. Can't hang onto everything tho Tom. Ever seen Hoarders?? Sometimes I think my unfinished basement might end up on an episode. It's scary down there
I think this pot I have may have been off an old pressure cooker. It's pretty heavy.

Mine has a good roll bead on it. Found it at the thrift store for $4. The 1/2" piece of polycarbonate I think almost cost me the same as the vac pump. That vac pump sure gets hot after 1.5 - 2hrs of straight pulling. No doubt it'll eventually burn out on me. Next one I may drop a little more $$$ on.Quote:

Nice work Mike. Looks a hell of a lot better than the initial pic.
Just pulled my block out of the oven after 1.5 hours of baking at 250 degrees. Looks promising. Seems the black dye has worked and I've easily doubled the initial weight, maybe even more. Hard to handle right now so tomorrow i'll belt sand the excess resin away and see what I've got.
I was planning on weighing this before and after but forgot. hopefully I can remember to do that for the next blank to see how much mass I'm actually adding.
