Honing some supposed shave ready razors. They were sharp but didn't shave well. Tried refreshing edges first with CrOx, then Naniya SS 12K with no luck. Finally went to the Naniya SS 1K for bevel set, Blueson 1/3K (3K side), King 4/8K (8K side), 12K Naniya SS, strop on HeavyHanded's brick with CrOx on paper. The first was a Trente Deux 32 Dumas Aine small near wedge that gave a two pass (WTG ATG)DFS. The big smiling Geo Wostenholm and Sons produced a socially acceptable shave, so it will require more refinement. The third was a Jacques Lecoultre that will be tonights' shave. While trying to tighten the Wosty, one washer popped off. Those scales are too long for the blade, so will have to find some suitable black horn replacements.

Those sound like some nice razors. How about some pictures?

They are in good shape as everyday shavers. Pics after I get my photo booth set up. The Lecoultre shaved between socially acceptable and DFS. It will require a little more work, possibly on the Shapton Glass 16K.

I've had this Bengall for a long time and it had these nasty scratches when I got it. They always drove me crazy so today I finally got around to cleaning them up. It's a nice heavy wedge that's right around 8/8.

Here's the scratches. As you can see they're pretty deep and they're the same on both sides of the blade.

I started with 600 grit on the sleeveless sanding drum and it cleared the scratches up fairly quickly.

I followed that with 1k and 2k, also on the sleeveless drum.

Then it was on to the buffer for some final polishing of the blade and scales.

As you can see she's nice and shiny now and ready for the hones.

Shaun, the boxes are really nice my friend. And the razor
Mike that razor is looking so great

Steve, I'm jealous of that much ivory Brother

Here's what I looked like browsing through here this evening

What can I say Dave? It's been awhile because more recently, people have been buying up the ivory so I don't know if they have been on here as guests & seen our secrets on how to identify real ivory or they are members from here but I haven't been able to get it really cheap like I used to. Once in a great while I will. Sometimes they will have junk blades & some will slide right under the radar or go early in morning hours, but I've noticed more are bidding on them now. I got all of them cheap except for one I know of which is a Drew & Sons, Piccadilly Circus which I paid a little more for at the time but not that much. It is a nice razor.

I got my Ern Ator apart last night & I already have my pin halfway made with a head on it. I have holes drilled in my 1" square keystock just so deep so I can make the heads on my pins, then when I go back together, I cut it to the right length & peen the other side.

I put tape over the ivory to protect it from the clamps plus I folded a piece of paper, the leftover gasket I had when I rebuilt the carb on my old generator worked perfect to take up any gap between the ivory & tail so the scales wouldn't crack when lightly clamping them down. I just snug them down just enough where the razor won't move.

Thanks guys. It's marked made in England on the back and the scales are Bakelite so it's newer then most heavy sheffield wedges.

Engine46. I too am envious of the Piccadilly razor. Was that Ator made with ivory or did you make the scales? I don't think I've come across an ivory ERN before.
