That's a good looking knife

Here's a mock up after making scales for my Jonathan Crooks FBU. I'll either wait & make a cerrobend wedge or I'm seriously thinking of making a brass wedge since I'm using the brass bullseye collars & maybe nickel rod.

I was working on a Colley & Co. Razor...... Sanding it down..... Then noticed it has a crack near the toe........ GRRRRRRRR!
Not too worried about it...... Bought in a razor lot. Would have been a nice razor to finish up. I know it isn't in the greatest of shape to begin with.....But...You never know until you try.....

That's what I try to stress to people who have never tried things before. You never know unless you try. If you try & succeed, you have accomplished something but if not, you can never say you didn't try!

It should turn out pretty nice!

I agree...... You never know what lurks underneath all the crud on a blade...... I might just polish it up..... And use it as a display piece some time down the road. I got lots other blades to work on.

IMO Brass wedge it all the way!
I've made some brass/ebony/brass laminate wedges as well as with other woods that turned out well. Also took a thicker brass shim and CA'd it to a stir stick and made a wedge on the belt sander that turned out quite well. Couple of options you probably already considered..

Thank you Willis. They came out better than I expected them to! If I remember right, I got those from masecraft & I think they are the translucent buffalo slabs. It's been a few months since I bought it but I got enough to make several sets.

Thanks Mike. I think I decided to go with the brass wedge as well. Great options on a CA'd wedge also. What makes the scales come out so nice is that I use my belt sander to make the roundness on the scales. I then start with my coarse sandpaper & keep working it up from 220 to 3000 grit, then I polish them by hand with Maas.

I need to look into getting horn blanks. Ebay has a few vendors who sell them.... Most likely at an inflated price.
Seems that the "honey" horn is somewhat hard to come by for some reason. You do some great work Steve! Very PRO!
