i hit the spine once and that was enough to buy a real sponge that gets suction cupped to the sink for a quick careful wipe ...

I am the cheap one then, i wipe the lather off on the outside of my forearm. My razors never see water, i just strop off the last of the foam on my towel, then give it a quick wipe to catch anything I missed.
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

+1 on the above, use a sponge to wipe the lather off the blade

Unlucky, A very nice first razor as mentioned, as as said it will come back in better shape than when you got it, when you send it to be honed.

This is the whole reason I use a large sponge to clean the blade. The horror stories.
    Very nice razor, btw.

I remember how mad I was when I did the exact same thing. Not a big deal though, a honing will fix it right up.

It's incredible that so many people have had the same experience (=tapping the edge against the sink).
    Been there done that.

Consider yourself lucky. There's even a friend of mine, lots of experience with a straight, who did it with my favourite razor, an incredibly rare and wonderful 8/8" Pierard-Lefebvre. It cannot be repaired in this case.
