Went with tape over the etching to ensure it was left alone and pinned it up.





Not too bad for placement of inlay, but I should have left the laser at a higher power.
Also, Need a better way of getting the excess ca out from between the more intricate letters, or need to not have any excess squirt out at all.
Lessons learned.
Now it's time to hit the hones.

Thanks Tom. No doubt this razor was fated to come back together. Neat how the parts spread out to various folks only to come back together when the time was right..

Funny, I was on eBay the other day & found some scales by a seller that sells straights & scales but all of a sudden, he is selling these now. I'm not saying he is copying me because I'm sure there have been some who have made some like my cocobolo scales before but he just started selling these now!

He's been selling straights & scales for quite awhile now. It just seems funny he is suddenly selling some very similar to the ones I made. I took a pic of his the other day now I couldn't find them so I took a pic of his again. Gee, I think I have a patent for them here somewhere's.............

I think yours, still looks better.
The grain is tighter, and has a sweet...grain design. Probably a better grade of wood though too.

I like the shape of yours waaaayy better. His seem clunky, unrefined almost.

A little update on my progress of things, it has been mostly rough the past few days, not getting much time to work on my razzers and breaking stuff. Bought a dremel with the cut-off wheel attachment. I broke the screw head in half... -sigh- It's probably for the best, but will now go get a manual saw. I think I am confining my Dremel to only polishing duties. So, my two shorties are stalled for now.

My first round of cast scales looks neat. They are quite flexible, my knowlege and experience with scales are limited. I think this might be because the mold is supposed to be heated to 140F before use. This is easily accomplished by throwing the mold in the microwave. Which defeats the purpose of my original idea to keep my mold in a plastic photo case for safety and storage convenience. Pretty sure 140F might melt this plastic.... So, I might have to cut out the mold, which may damage it in the process. I went with dyed scales for the first round, so I'm not sure how translucent this material is plain. It only takes 15 or so minutes from mixing to demold time, so suspension of glitter may be feasible. Mixing this stuff is kinda a PITA, especially when you accidentally add too much dye...

I really dig how yours has holes at both ends too Steve. Way easier to secure the pivot end with that feature.

Microwaves are not good for heating up chemicals, or curing things. Use a toaster oven or heat lamp or something. Microwaves work by exciting molecules not by radiant heating elements. You would generate extreme hot spots in your mix that would ruin your project before the temperature balanced throughout.
They (microwave ovens) are good for reheating food and making popcorn only.

I heat alum solution on microwave to grow my own alum crystals.

Someday I'll reach perfection when I grow a perfect transparent single cristal the size of a omega stone.
