Regarding scales,,, choices are black wood, compliments of missing Mike. Ebony, dark horn, honey horn, or bone.
Leaning towards classic dark horn, brass wedge again, maybe bone, with older style polished bullseye washers.
    Thoughts and opinions always appreciated.
A blade this fantastic, I say stick to original as possible, do the horn or the bone. JMO though, whatever you do I'm sure will be excellent.

If the crack is still clean, why not force some CA in there with a toothpick and sand it as it cures?

I've never tried this myself, and Tom, I know you have much experience with this sort of thing, but will the CA not soak into the surrounding surface and discolour?

I would go with camel bone and soak it in hydrogen peroxide at the final stages to make it pure in color and very ivory-esk. You might be able to get it to color to match the ivory after that. The dark hone would be a great contrast, especially if it was almost translucent and lightly streaked dark horn. That is my perspective.

If you CA a clean crack to the top, you can sand it down and the crack is sometimes almost invisible. If there is dirt or something in the crack, it will still show. Anyway, it could keep the crack in check.

    Good ideas all.
The ivory is still a little bit proud of the original tang root so no harm in trying the CA prior to my final sand down. Would be nice if there was no split, character o-plenty still in this neat old blade.

Ivory on bone, I wasn't sure it'd look right, but I do have some 35% solution I could cut down to maybe 8% or less? and try bleaching it. Thanks for the idea Shaun. Haven't tried that before.

I braved the elements and took out the old pads, cleaned up the piston , fitted the new ones, only to find that I'd bought the wrong pads haha.
So I took it all apart again , fitted the spent pads.
A good hour in freezing weather, wasted cash, now I have ordered the rite pads but I'm riding around on duff brake pads :/
On the plus side ,its the rear brakes, which I don't use.
Just hope the cops don't stop me and check....
