Some of the pitting still has black spots , so I guess the darker the better. Also I've done some 180 grit sanding , I don't wanna go any higher because the blade is a mess ,end of story .Plus I'm working on other very important blades, blades for me
Update: Washed the blade in acetone , now its resting on a hot radiator (its 1c here today)I'll wash it in distilled vinegar after then blue it overnight n see what happens , ill post pics ..ThanksLast edited by JOB15; 01-16-2016 at 08:03 PM.

Thanked: 4827If you heat your vinegar on the stove and then use that for your vinegar soak it will do both warm the blade and etch the surface to give the blue better hold. I have also gotten a very deep blue by wrapping the blade in paper towel and then soaking the paper towel and leave it for a 1/2 hour and then sit the blade on a dry paper towel overnight, then clean it up a little with some 0000 steel wool, very gently. to vary the effect you can put some bleach spots on it and then rinse it, and when you are satisfied with the results oil the blade.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

I'm impressed
This blade has deep pitting and scratches from coarse glass paper ,also I used a few different types of Dremel sanding bits which left the surface scared.
So last night I wiped the blade down with Acetone and then left it on a hot radiator to warm up.
I then microwaved some distilled vinegar and lay the blade down submerged in the vinegar.
After a few mins I dried off the blade and added a coat of Bluing . Then I wrapped the blade in tissue and soaked it in the Bluing liquid.
Half an hour later I removed the tissue and rinsed the blade off and lightly sanded the blade with fine steel wool.
I then repeated the whole process.
The final result is amazing , dark blue patina , hiding all the imperfections and giving the blade some character .
I love it.

Haha
Its cracked... Maybe there was a slight fracture and the hot vinegar turned it into the San Andreas Fault line?
