The Butchered Blade

Looks like almost no hone wear on that blade Outback and just some staining. Should make a handsome shorty. You might even be able to straighten the scales and shorten them up too.

Got this at a flea market in with some others. It's had a heel-ectomy and grinding under the tang. Not quite sure what to do with it. What do you guys think should be done here, if anything?

I would think of blending the remains of the stabilizer in to be part of the tang. Perhaps a thumb notch?
Would look killer, I think?

Actually there's a bit of pitting on the b side, just below the spine, and some on the tang. So being that the tangs are normally blued, I decided to polish the top of the spine, then tape it off with scotch tape, and blued the whole blade.

And have straightened the scales.
The cool part was the blade was too big for those scales already, and by amputating the toe it fits with a slight bit of extra room.

Yeah the Case Red Imp scales are bad about shrinking. Probably how the blade got broken.
If those don't work-out, I have some more shrunken ones which are pretty good otherwise!

OK !!
All done with the Red Imp.
Amputation of the toe.
Clean blade.
Clean scales.
Restraighten scales. (twice)
Polish spine, tape off w/scotch tape.
Blue entire blade, coat in oil, let season 24hrs.
Make brass pins.
Dome 4 small brass washers.
Gold leaf the tang stamps, and scales. Stamp too shallow to take at wedge end...oh well.
Pinned up, and honed.

Nice job bud, the bluing sets it off nicely. Was the Imp completely blued originally?

Just the tangs, from what I've seen. I have another 133 that not broke in the needs done box, and just the tang is blued.

I like the blued blade with just the shine along the bevel. Very nice..
