I hope who ever won it....REALLY ENJOYS it!
I'm still keeping an eye peeled for that Ottoman Razor for ya.
You never know what lurks in some of these antique stores.....Is it over there or over yonder?

I was guessing that big Rodger's was going to go for about eight hundred on it's way out (yikes). I think if I'd known then what I see now on the bay price wise I would have picked up a few more razors than what I did years back when you could still get most of them fairly reasonable. I see broken blades trying to sell for two and three hundred dollars now with nothing special about the scales either ??? Crazy.

Wade Butcher Feather Edge Straight Razor CUT Throat Razor Rare Item | eBay
Someone from this forum trying their luck on a Wade & Butcher... Even using Glen (gssixgun) as part of the description.
I wanna say shame on them, then I think good luck to them! But then I really think shame on them, making the most of us out to be pilferers of low quality razors at high prices.
On another note, if you want really high quality razors at *reasonable* prices (reasonable in that they are all high quality, so you pay a bit more check these out ----> rspe7027 Always top quality razors from this eBayer but not a user of this forum he informed me.

If Glen restored that razor, it's a perfectly legitimate reference.. even inspiring confidence. Nicely done by Glen, it has a lot of character. The scales are beautiful, too. The bevel is nice, even and looks clean. I am sure if it hasn't been used, it may well still be shave-ready. The starting price isn't ridiculous and yes, since I may have seen that kind of W&B once, or twice in the last few years, I would say it is rare indeed. IMHO, there's no shame in that one.
I am interested to hear exactly what it is, that makes you say it's a low quality razor.
On the other hand, the seller you advertised does sell some good looking blades and no doubt they are shave-ready. Their auctions start up a bit too high for my taste, but hey....

Well for me, the blade isn't in that great of a condition (now by blade I mean everything metal, not just the cutting edge). There is visible pitting all over the thing and the finish on it is different in various places. The makers stamp is faded (from too much sanding or just age?). And yes, for $150 that's just not good enough for me. Regardless of who restored it, I don't think there is $150 there but from the other seller I mentioned you could get this Puma which looks like NOS (ok maybe not quite that good) just about for $140. I know where I would send my money. Wade & Butcher seems to sell for a very high price simply because of a (faded in this case) logo. The scales are even the original and I persoanlly don't like the nut and bolt look for the hinges.
I guess it just depends where you place value, for me the seller with the Wade & Butcher (and these other 2) is asking way too much and has too much invested in those razors to be able to place a realistic value on them.

That's a bit harsh, and frankly in my opinion - dead wrong in your analysis of the state of that razor.
If it went at it's current price it would be a great buy - it's a 120+ year old razor that has some wear and tear, but otherwise a rather rare, great looking W&B restored by a renowned, trusted expert.
And to then to go on to "shame" someone for mentioning how the razor was restored? Really? Who peed in your cornflakes this morning...

The seller had to pay Glen to restore them so I don't think he's asking too much, just trying to get his money back out of them. Glen does excellent work & on these he retained the vintage look on them & for the collars you call "nut and bolt look for the hinges" are the pins & the collars on that one seem to be original. I have an old Joseph Elliot with the same collars.

It the item can't stand on its own then why bother mentioning who has been involved with it? Does it matter? That really doesn't affect the value of the item if it was restored by the pope or by the pauper living behind the vatican, it either is good or it's not.
I don't think anyone mentioned the razors being yours either?
I also hope you read the bit about ascribing value too... I don't see the value there, but it seems that you do. Why not place a bid? The other razor he has listed with the scales that have the inscription on them are more realistic but that's because it's a complete package... It's got the historical value somewhat.
The other one is being used as a shaver only, there is no historical value there with the scales having been replaced, and they aren't really adding to it's value, only its utility. As I said, I'd much rather spend $150 elsewhere... All power to you if you wouldn't. I'm willing to bet that noone here will place a bid on that razor after starkly defending it though.Last edited by andrewmurray86; 11-16-2015 at 09:27 PM. Reason: Spelling!
