    ...and if it's not legal and you run afoul of CITES, it really is a lot of trouble. Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. When I travel to fish, I like to take some fly-tying material with me. But not all of it, the polar bear stays home. I don't even carry that stuff across state lines! Especially not in my sandalwood and ivory fly-tying-material box.

    Is there a loophole? 5% by weight or volume ?

    Where there is a will, there is a way.

    Instead of ivory list them as;
    elongated incisors, white in color
    large mammal enamel
    exterior elephant choppers
    slow native scoopers, white in color
    They are not Ebony, but i*&$y, living in perfect harmony.....

    But is it (old, legal ivory) legal to sell outside of the country? I have heard not.

When I finally get off my butt and cull the herd, I'll have 15 or 20 blades and will sell them all here. It's never occurred to me that that would be an abuse, unless I wasn't selling good stuff.
    On the eBay front, I picked this up just to get at the scales, thought they listed them as bone but I guess they did not...OLD STRAIGHT RAZOR WEBSTER & STONE ANCHOR BRAND GERMANY MANGANESE STEEL | eBay

    Regarding the Classifieds - I'm with roughkype, I would much rather buy from the Classifieds than from ebay and the more choices there are the better. You know it will come shave ready, and if you don't yet trust your honing skills thats $$ and time that you don't have to spend. You can also ask questions and get honest feedback from the vendors.

    Your Ivory/Bone/Natural/Unicorn Horn whatever is going to be welcome in the family...

    You cannot Sell ANY Elephant Ivory outside this country,nor can you Import it,you cannot legaly send your buddy in any other country a 200 year old ivory scaled razor without full documentation of origin and buy a $200 export stamp.
    You take and Ivory scaled razor to europe or canada and it gets seen by customs you are in a world of hurt.
    On the above fishing trip note,Buddy of mine was up In B.C. salmon fishing last year,(Fraser river)he picked up a feather floating down the river,stuck it in his fishing hat (large floppy fedora).
    Customs at the border nailed him bigtime as it was an eagle feather (he had no clue) spent the night in jail,$3000.00 fine,and can never return to Canada again,gotta be carefull with animal parts.
