Bookbinders use folders made of bone; they're called "bone folders." Available at art supply stores and online. They look an awful lot like bone scales. There are also new razors with bone scales. Don't know why they're kicking up trouble on ebay, unless people are in fact sneaking other stuff through under the label.

I'm recycling some old ivory scales into wedges, but not on anything I'll sell. As said above, it's a shame to waste it.

As long as it's not made from a male animal that was circumsized, you'll be "kosher" with EU member-countries.
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Sorry for the rant getting off the soapbox now

The problem i sprobably that elephant ivory pre-1970 looks exactly like post-1970 ivory.
And 'everyone's' ivory is of course pre-1970. We keep getting more and more pre-1970s ivory every year

I just sold an ivory scaled razor on ebay. As I was listing it, it did give me an auto warning a couple of times so I just changed the wording a little bit and it was fine. I listed them as natural scales that were not bone.

With cases of Illegal smuggling Ivory can easily be dated as to when the animal was killed.
Sport hunted Tusks can still be legally brought into The U.S today.Yes,elephants hunters still exsist today.
All pre ban legal tusks are stamped with export numbers that can be traced to date and origin.
There are tons of legal Ivory in the world.

Of course there are. But there are also tons of illegal ivory.
And while ivory can be dated, ebay has no way of knowing whether an 1870s Joseph Rodgers was rescales with illegal ivory or not.
And since they got a lot of negative attention from animals rights activists as well as the official regulatory agencies (presumably) it makes sense that their only option is to just be seens to do their due diligence and remove all ivory.
