    v4l gives you more options in the software to set , change. more than the boxed crap th6at came with it, usually bundled software is useless , has no features and if you need it for drivers , you can usually just install the driver without installing the bundled software.

    Good to know. I'll keep that in mind. I think I have Brew installed on my Mac, but not MacPorts.

    I've been highly interested in a USB microscope. Does anyone know of any way to run one with an android tablet? Portability would be handy.

    well, lets start with what ports do you have on the tablet? micro usb, standard usb?, not all ?

    I want to get one of those but haven't done it yet. I might be wrong but I'm assuming it uses a usb to connect to a computer. If so I would think you could get a usb adapter for an android. I could be wrong about how they connect though.
