Thanked: 3795Poison ivy and shaving don't mix
So, I've run into a problem with shave testing razors for my free honing endeavor. That is, I've managed to get a wicked case of poison ivy exposure on my arms, ankles, groin , chest, neck, and face. Let's just say that I look like the elephant man, but with oozing. I went a couple days without shaving and had 6 razors that needed shave testing, so I went for it. Let's just say that I regret doing the WTG pass and there was no way I could do the ATG test that I normally do.
I figure that for the next week I'm going to have to send out razors without shave testing. Given the swelling in my face, I just can't do a proper shave test. I hope this won't cause a problem for anyone but if I send you a razor and it's not acceptable, I will re-hone it and cover the postage.

Thanked: 3795I have a hedge around my yard that has a little poison ivy in one spot. I've always been very careful to avoid it when trimming grass near it. I was doing some gardening at least 10 feet from it but somehow must have come in contact with some of the oil.
Since mowing with my reel mower always kept it restricted to right under the hedge, I've always considered that we would just remain at a mutual detente. Given this recent act of aggression on its part, I'm going to go after it later this summer. Fortunately, at my job I wear disposable Tyvek suits and lots of rubber gloves, so I'm going to bring a lot of those use ones home and spend a lot of time pulling it all out by hand. Then I can throw away the gloves and Tyvek suits to eliminate risk of transferring the oil.

Thanked: 3795Actually, I've already changed my mind about that. There is one part of my cheek that is less affected so that will be the shave test area. I'm not going in public anyway (trust me it's for the best), so it won't really matter if I only have whiskers on 3/4 of my face!

This thread is worthless without pics! I wanna see what you look like now. Ron, there used to be a product called Brush Kill, if they havent changed the formula its good stuff, I used it for poison oak growing up the side of a building. I sprayed the crap out of the vine and stood back for a few weeks and watched it die all the way down to the roots. I know its chemicals, but Im just trying to keep you out of the poison oak..

Thanked: 3795Pictures just ain't gonna happen. I have no desire to have my swollen, oozing mug on the internet in perpetuity.
Because of the proximity of the poison ivy to my hedge, herbicides are not an option. I'm going to have to pull it by hand wearing disposable stuff. It's a small patch, maybe 2' x 8' that I've always left alone but now this is war.
For anyone receiving razors from me, I'd like to assure you that
a) the poison ivy symptoms are not transmissible--the oil that caused the reaction is long gone
b) I always disinfect razors before sending them out.
