I shave with both hands, typically the right side of my face gets my right hand and my left side gets my left hand.
Though my left hand isn't as coordinated, I think most of my "accidents" have happened while shaving right handed.

For a straight razor shave both hands should be used.

Thanked: 2I use both hands when using a straight razor, mostly because that's how "The World of Straight Razor Shaving" dvd taught me.
With regard to the left hand, Hemingway said it best:
"He could feel the steady hard pull of the line and his left hand was cramped. It drew up tight on the heavy cord and he looked at it in disgust."
"What kind of a hand is that," he said. "Cramp then if you want. Make yourself into a claw. It will do you no good."

Happy Friday everyone.

Like pretty much everyone else has said... I shave with both hands.
I'm still learning to shave with the non-dominate hand, but I improve with each shave.
There are places and angles that just make sense for the non-dominant hand to come into play... it's much easier to hit several spots on the left side with the left hand... similarly, the right side seems to call for the right hand...
I recall my first few shaves where I had my arms all tangled trying to scrape the left side of my neck with my right hand and skin strech with the left hand... a virtual game of twister.

Thanked: 74When I was learning to shave with a straight I figured that since I was learning a new skill, I might as well have both hands be proficient. I shaved with both from the outset. The left hand (non-dominant) actually seems to do a better job. I think it is because I have to pay attention to what it is doing.

I studied the vids here at srp before I got my first razor. So, from the very first shave I went two handed. This takes some time to get used to. My biggest challenge with my non-dominant hand was getting the correct angle of the blade against my face. Now it's second nature.

When I started shaving with the straight razor I tried to use both hands but it felt very dangerous in a way... I then decided to do what felt better and only use my dominant hand. I found away to get very good shaves using only one hand. One day I got over confident and got a really nasty cut on my left index finger (6 stiches...) and I really decided to focus on what really works for me and reduce the danger factor to a minimum.
But hey, whatever works for you. Even if it means using your feet!
