Almost never. An old barber told me to hold the razor securely but lightly enough so that is if it pulls the razor will flex in your fingers and be less likely to nick. He also told me to never force it if it does pull. Following that advice I have rarely gotten a nick.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

in the year since I have been shaving. Two actual cuts. Once was new guy mistake. The other when a door was opened into my arm. Many nics along the way, but those are few and far between now.

Once, I would call a cut. 1/16 inch. left a scar! Nicks, three times a year? Always at the jawline. Seems they come as I am doing no-no's, to be honest. another swipe of lather is recommended before going back over a spot! One will learn the connection between the face and hand is a fast one. I think we all learn when to back off. Right before the skin breaks! JMHO . To answer, one needs a styptic pencil or a few stitches!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

I cut myself on occasion, although now it is pretty rare. I gave myself a nick under my nose just this morning trying to get really close as my stache seems to be 'traveling" more and more north!
