Thanked: 1184Backbone ? Scritch ? I think black badger when I hear that. Glen described his and well
Boar, Black badger and I believe horse. The 1 with the boar is now holding a mixed badger which is 20 knot. Small but more backbone less scritch. The black is just right for those 2 or 3 day growth beards. The horse is a wet mop I love to use with cream and it's so big I don't think they make a knot large enough to replace it. The Black is great quality from the Nib and I am not sure about any body else's as I haven't used them.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

High Mountain Badger knots according to some are the same as a 2 Banded knot.
Is it over there or over yonder?

Thanked: 3225I think Shavemac and TGN have some good knots. I think given the choice I'd be inclined to go Shavemac. You can always contact Bernd Blos at Shavemac and tell him the characteristics you like in a knot and some examples of other makers knots you like because of that. He could likely advise you on which grade of badger hair that he has that would be a good match for your requirements regarding face feel. I did that when I ordered my Shavemac brush and his advice was spot on.

I never fling lather with a tall boar brush!
Keep the tips on the face and use it just like a badger?
So a shavemac badger now! Better make up your mind, Phrank! Mike will be done in a day!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

I will not rush such a vital shaving instrument with rash decisions!! Lol
Had some good suggestions on various knots and types, and I am leaning towards Shavemac and taking Bobs advice of contacting them. Makes sense to give Shavemac the specs, tell him what I'm looking for and prefer, and see what he comes back with...:-)

I'm with Tom on this - the original Rubberset boar knots don't fling lather about - however, I do have a similar sized Dubl Duck boar that's useless. I only keep it because it looks nice. I should use if for cleaning my keyboard.
My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.

Thanked: 4206Tonight I will do some lather fling testing. We do not want to be rash, or hasty in the deconstruction of a venerable old boar hair tool.
That being said, have you seen Andrews gym pictures?? Spidey can whip up a lather quicker than Cujo with those guns of his. Us mere mortals can only use our best attempts, and maybe a mixmaster to achieve the same levels of frappe I would imagine..
hehe.
