Thanked: 4206Update after a 8-10% H2O2 soak and some deep fiber combing with a long tined brass brush I have.
That little spot of rust is the only stain not to come out. Seems to have leeched into the bristles some.
But aside from that, it cleaned up very nicely.
So much so I decided to try the lather and fling test.
Challengers are Thater 4125, #3, and a VC silver tip, also 25 mm.
Dunked each in a sink of hot water, squeezed out equally, 20 swirls in Cyril Salter, Skuttle lather, adding water as required to each to get to where I like em.
Wet face and lathered each with vigor. No fling at all. Granted the boar felt very different as its so tall, but not as scratchy as I expected. Even pulled a little brush slapping across the chin action hither and fro and still no fling.
Rinsed my face between goes as well.
So IMO, and having only tried the lather test once, it would be worth leaving the boar installed.
I will proceed to goat's azz gleam on the aluminium handle and you should try it out.
We can always go down the badger or retrofit road later, but it's only original once.
Is the softest boar I've ever tried personally. My other one is a much shorter loft which makes all the difference I think.
Review concluded..

And here I was, home early from the office, right in the middle of emailing Shavemac when this popped up.
Can't disagree Mike, it's only original once, and I've got enough badger, it passes the lather fling test, it get's to live...as far as Tom, I think it's OK if we make the handle shinier than a diamond in a goats azzz, that's OK, it's razors that aren't allowed to be shiny....
Great work Mike!

Lather fling test! Yer KILLING ME!
I never soak my brushes before use, just dip the tips in water. Mine seems to have plenty of stiffness using it that way.
BTW, A seller on the Fleabay has one listed with 2 interchangable tops, one with a boar and one with a badger.
If you use something like Goop, it would be easy to reknot if you did not like the boar?"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Thanked: 4206I dunk the whole head and squeeze out nearly all the water and then hand add a few drops at a time in the Skuttle.
Will be cinchy to retrofit now that in unscrews again.
Could almost hold a Chapstick sized shave soap inside the hollow handle too."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanked: 1184Don't forget to hold your pinky up in the air when your doing the fling test Phrank. Counter balance thing :<0) And good luck I hope it works out without changing the knot out. Nothing like a little diversity in the routine once in awhile.

So. Tape the hairs with Good quality masking tape, upside down, sticky side up! (hard to do!)
Then slide it ever so much toward the top, another layer sticky-side down going up tight to the handle. Go at it, finishing on the wetNdri at least 1500.
Take it to the buffer, going easy on the edges. Turning it sideways and up and down in the grooves.
Take your time. When done, some Nevr-dull, A few times.....
THEN, soak it in a coffee cup upside down, right at handle transition, in Oxyclean again. Wash and dry. Nevrdull done carefully.
You will like it! The hairs on these are much thicker than the DublDucks, yet thinner than an Omega.
I like my brushes used with the tips wetted. I like to fill the brush with lather, notsomuch water. That keeps the backbone dry and makes the brush work.
In my thoughts, these handles look a bit awkward with modern, short, badger knots.
Were I to replace it, You know what I would do.
One reason it is the last one I have, I suppose.
The Omega barber's gross is huge and can be had cheaply. Cut the handle off the knot and reuse it.
The Omega has a bulb top to it. Nice!

Thanked: 2284I like my TIHS original. Especially on a brush that is so desirable and hard to come by. Why replace the hairs on a brush everyone wants in the exact condition your is in?? I say leave it as is Mike. Except maybe the finish on the actual handle, these things look super sharp when they come to a high polish. I remember seeing one a while back that some dude turned into a mirror and it looked stunning. Problem with a finish like that is you need to wear white cotton gloves every time you use it.
