Thread: First brush

Those are some sweet brushes. They look familiar. I feel bad because I believe the maker of the Ivory ones has passed, and I can't remember his name now. Wish I had one. I picked up some gaboon ebony today as well. At 70% off I couldn't pass it up.

Yep one of them has an ebony section,, that's some of my Pixelfixed collection, Bill Baber has passed on but he left his mark, I had several made and love them all, even my wife has some of his makeup brushes in Ivory and Cocobola. I,m a brush whore, I actually have more brushes than razors. Tc

Lord Thunderin' Jesus, I almost fainted when I saw those Pixel brushes...man he did some awesome work, those are spectacular.

I'm assuming you've loaded them all up with Shavemac knots?

As a matter of a fact I was just composing a pm to Harrywally, after looking at that picture it reminded me, I have some need of more Shavemac knots,, but I,m wondering if I send all six at once will they all come home!!!!!! But yes they will soon, my Shavemac knot is some kind of nice and in these handles Oy!!! Make a one legged man win a butt kicking contest. Tc

I knew it would hit me once reminded. I truly regret never pulling the trigger on one of his brushes. It gives me some good ideas though for some of my combination brushes.

Well the shavemac knot has shipped. The Chinese one is still in china, hasn't updated in 10 days. Andrew, any tips for applying the epoxy? Obviously I don't want to use too much, but I'm not sure if there are some tricks. Should I protect the base of the knot somehow in case some epoxy does ooze out?

The ShaveMac knots have sharp over drips of epoxy hanging off the base, you'll want to sand those off so the base is perfectly flat. Also, try and sand the sides of the epoxy plug as well. I've had Chinese knots pop out that I didn't sand/rough up. It'll just help make a good bond. 120 grit is my recommendation, and then make sure all that sanding dust is off it too. As for gluing, you won't need much. The size of a large pea is all you'll need. Last thing you want is too much, and have it push up the sides and out the top.

I should add, make sure you seal the inside of the knot pocket first. Take some paper towel, fold it up so you have a thick piece about a 3/8 wide, 2 inch long. Squeeze a tiny amount of thin CA on the tip and run it around the inside coating the inside base and walls. Be careful not to get it on the outside, where all your hard work is. Do about 3 coats in there until everything is sealed.
