My first impressions are this knot screams quality. The hair is very dense, and just looks amazing. Should be able to get the whole thing finished up in a day or two. Almost done with the handle.

What I notice when compared to Chinese knots is, You can tell that the ShaveMac knots have been combed.....combed again.....and combed again. Chinese knots the hairs tend to be crossed and the odd one curled. The other thing I notice is that Chinese knots have filler hair. If you go through the knot and take note of every single strand, there's quite a few that are very thin. Maybe not even Badger???? Who knows.... ShaveMac strands are all the same, with nothing that I can see resembling filler.

Ok, I made a mistake. The forstner bit I used was too big. Should I save this handle and try again, or try to make it work? The depth currently is 13mm and it's got a lot of room in there...

Funny, last brush I made for Bob, I did the same thing. Unfortunately with the ShaveMac knots, the hole needs to be perfect. This is why it's always nice to have the knot in hand when boring the hole. My advice, you'll need to start over. You could pour Epoxy in there and re bore, but it wouldn't look right. You spent a lot of money on that Badger knot, you want it to be perfect. Save that handle though, you can bore that hole deeper and stick good Chinese knot in it, or order the appropriate sized ShaveMac that will fill out that hole.

I missed your current Loft. This isn't a ShaveMac knot is it?

This is the shavemac. I'm trying to do the hole by hand. It's harder than you'd think to get it just right by hand!

How the heck do you have a 67mm loft? Or is that a typo? Max you can order is 58 on a 30mm knot.

LOL, I was measuring from the wrong spot. From the top of the epoxy, at the highest point, it's about 60mm loft. I did order 58, so it's close enough. I'm working on sizing a hole by hand in some ebony.

So you might be able to drill it deeper and lower the loft a bit. That will set it deeper, and at the same time, fill out the hole. What's your intended loft?
