That is too bad, yet seems typical these days.
My old ones are great...As many as Bill bought, you might think he was getting the best ones...

Mine were indeed the 'finest badger'.

    I understand the SM's are pricey...Do they have a stiffer 2-band?

I'm lucky to have one of the 26mm Grade A's. Very, very nice Silvertip.

The Shavemac Silvertip 2 bands are amazing. Excellent backbone, and very soft tips.

The D01 2 bands I have not tried, but have one sitting here waiting for my lazy arse to make a handle for it. Looking forward to trying it.

I have read that they are much scritchier than the regular 2 band from SM.

Andrew has a D01 in his rubberset 3 and says it's great. I installed it but never tested it.
I might order some tgn's and if when they arrive they aren't up to grade hold off and order from SM.
These handles deserve a good knot I believe.

I suppose I am just not so into the soft tips for some (most) lathers. DO1 sounds interesting?
Pretty hard on a brush as I face-lather and shave 2 maybe 3 times a week.

Finally got back to these and popped them off with much dremel carving and relief work from the inside.
They did not come out nearly as easily as my first rubberset reno did, but out they came without any thread damage.

Their openings are just shy of 25 mm, so now to select the new hairdo's for them both..
The other two brushes are coming along at a slower pace as they had to be gouged out from above.

Nice work brother. I'll be watching closely. Hope to snag one of these in the future.

I've got an aluminum brush that's very similar to the second one shown in the original image. it's got a crack along the side. anyone know if there's a good way to repair aluminum? i'm not well-versed in the matter but it's a really old piece and i'd like to bring it back to its glory days

I have the D01 normal knot in the #3, and it's very nice, but IMO, not nearly as rugged and scritchy as I like them.

The D01-2 you put in my Walleyman custom...now that one rocks all, superb knot, so my idea was to have the #3 with the D01, and the #4 with the D01-2...smokin.

But the normal D01 is pretty much exactly like a Simpson's super badger, as in a Polo 2 type brush, soft, ok backbone, and not really that much scritch IMO.
