I disagree... The USA should invade the USA and win the hearts and minds of the population with transparency and accountability in government, elimination of surveillance and warfare against it's own citizens and by building trust with the American people by showing them a government that actually works.

Thanked: 734Here in the President's home town of Chicago, last year we had a total of 514 homicides. This year, to date, 307 dead and 1319 shot and wounded. Just over the Labor day weekend, 11 dead and 27 wounded. Considering the numbers of dead in Syria, I'm waiting for an aircraft carrier to be parked off the lake shore any minute.

Thanked: 734I'm on record as opposing any strike in Syria for now. But this article from 2006 may open another avenue for debate.
"The man who served as the no. 2 official in Saddam Hussein's air force says Iraq moved weapons of mass destruction into Syria before the war by loading the weapons into civilian aircraft in which the passenger seats were removed.
The Iraqi general, Georges Sada, makes the charges in a new book, "Saddam's Secrets," released this week. He detailed the transfers in an interview yesterday with The New York Sun.
"There are weapons of mass destruction gone out from Iraq to Syria, and they must be found and returned to safe hands," Mr. Sada said. "I am confident they were taken over."
Mr. Sada's comments come just more than a month after Israel's top general during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Moshe Yaalon, told the Sun that Saddam "transferred the chemical agents from Iraq to Syria."

Thanked: 3228You would have to go on with that homicide rate for about 200 years to match the death toll in Syria so far in order to warrant the attention of an aircraft carrier. As bad as Chicago is it ain't got a candle on Syria. You are right though, there is plenty to worry about and correct at home.

Thanked: 734What was the death toll for the chemical attack? 1400?
"The US put the death toll at 1,429, including 426 children and has blamed the Syrian government, based on its intelligence. "
BBC News - France: Syrian government 'behind chemical attack'
You get my point. I get your point.

Thanked: 983A delayed response to something posted by gssixgun, a query about what Australia might be doing in relation to the situation in Syria...Not stepping up to the plate with a response yet or something. Well, Australia is due to go to the polling booths on Saturday (your Friday in the US) for Federal Elections, so I would say Australia will be right up there with the US, just as soon as we find out who's going to be running the show here at home
.
I should have thought of that earlier, but it just didn't enter my mind. Anyway, that may be the reason why...But I wouldn't know for sure.

Thanked: 734My understanding is that it was never verified. You have to figure, this guy is a former general that was ousted by Sadaam, called back into service, then sides with the US during the invasion. He’s unpopular in Iraq and even if what he says is 100% true, what is the US going to do about it? The President at the time is up to his eyeballs in a very unpopular war, he’s getting criticism from the public, the news media, and the opposition party. The fragile coalition he was able to put together is damn near crumbling daily and now he’s going to make accusations that Syria is holding the chemical weapons and march in there too? LOL. No, I don’t think so.
