Thanked: 1184Okay so here is where I got lost..... “Would you kill a person to save others from dying?”. Stupid me assumes that this person is doing/going to do something that would make them less than innocent. Not surprising that I take a natural defensive posture in this scenario based on the limited facts of just that sentence. No matter what is said after that I am on the defensive and so I am now lost.
I would edit that post but then you would have to edit yours and so on and so on,,,,, :<0) NOTGood judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

So what if you knew that you were going to do something terrible, would you take your own life?
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanked: 480The problem here is, that the one guy you need to kill to save the other people, happens to be a friend of mine. So I am going to have to kill the person who is trying to kill the person in order to save people. Chance are really good I don't much like the people he is trying to save anyway. (even if I dont know them at all, chances are I dont like them much)

dance with the devil in the pale moonlight. Devil being your conscious. of which you seem to have.
make a choice and attempt to mitigate the consequences as much as possible.
Or pull a dexter, hunt your nemesis and dispose of the leftovers by feeding the sharks.
Ya I did just start watching a series from 2006.
On the other hand you could just stop posing such questions to yourself when intoxicated as it seems they cause you some amount of consternation.

Thanked: 1587Honestly, you can hypothetical these things until no one has any choice about anything. It's what's so frustrating about hypotheticals.
Carl, in your hypothetical about killing one child to save the family or whatever, I'd suggest that:
1. If the scenario involved a serial killer, it's not your choice about which kid to kill that is the bad thing, it is the serial killer putting you and your family in that position that is the bad thing. Credit where credit is due;
2. In any other scenario involving your hypothetical, I strongly believe that the only person's life you have the right to sacrifice is your own.
