Yeah, sometimes you just have forget the gloves and go bare handed. But you do wonder if your nails are really clean sometimes. I guess that is one reason they make sure we have all our shots. But I will say we have some of the best immune systems known.

We used to milk into cans, but upgraded to grade A which required pipelines and a bulk tank. I had an uncle who milked into the 1980's who still milked into cans. Then again, he also never stopped using horses instead of tractors. I got to make use of his can tank only when I would help him with threshing--that's where he stored the beer for the end of the day. A neighbor of ours used cans into the late 70's. About the time they finally got rid of the outhouse. I always remember them having water in the barn but they only had 1 cold water faucet in the house. A couple of old bachelors across the river had electricity in the barn to milk with and lights but only had one light in their porch with a plugin for the freezer well into the 80's. [They were in their 80's also!]An old acquaintance died in the 80's when they figured he had a seizure while carrying his kerosene lantern and started his house on fire. He had no electricity.

Now people go into shock if the battery goes dead on their cell phone.
