I grew up on a dairy farm so I've already tolerated enough lactose.

Yeah, nothing beats fresh whole milk from the bulk tank.
Colder and tastes better than after it hits the store.

It took me about 10 years of store milk to finally stop shaking the jug before pouring it.

My wife still shakes the jug on occasion. They bought pasteurized but not homogenized milk when she was a kid.

When I would visit the favorite uncle we would turn off the agitator on the bulk tank after the Sunday morning milking. When we got back from church my aunt and I would skim the cream off the top and then she would make banana ice cream.

We used a hand cranked maker with lots of salt and ice.

Without doubt the best ice cream ever made.

When I was a kid our 4-H club participated in a program to bring NYC kids out to spend some time on farms. We had one obnoxious punk who I decided I needed to mess up a little.

I told him that cows come in three forms: regular, chocolate, and strawberry. Of course he scoffed at it till I milked a strawberry cow into a bucket and showed him the perfectly colored strawberry milk. He saw the colored milk come directly out of the cow. I told him that we currently did not have any chocolate cows but the strawberry milk was sufficient proof for him. He was freaked out but I had proven it to him and sent him back home to NYC completely believing in strawberry and chocolate cows. Hopefully he shared that information with the rest of his gang.

For those of you who do not understand...the first days of milk from a cow that has just had a calf is called colostrum. It is more nutrient rich for the calf and cannot be included along with regular milk. Most importantly, it is occasionally bloody and looks just like strawberry milk.

I come from a part of the world where the only milk you can get has to come straight from the cow. Now that's country livin baby!
