Back in the day when mouse and rat traps were made of wood and steel (no plastic) the owner of the grocery store that I started at always used a piece of bacon that was well wedged into the little teeth on the bait holder. He would then set it and take a match or lighter and 'Burn the Bait' he said it helped keep the human scent away. Worked like a champ!
Give it a go, what do you have to loose except a little bit of your breakfast bacon.
Oh, the corporate chain used the glue pads and did you know that the term 'trapped like a rat' actually comes from the fact that a mouse will 'scream' when it's stuck to a glue trap? I've heard it! I don't see why a rat wouldn't do the same:Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

I have never tried bacon and as we all know bacon makes everything taste good!
Mice in my house are all use to human scent and I don't think I have to worry about it.

Are 'they' used to your scent or are 'you' used to theirs?
I loved this movie!

Just get a cat, they won't get rid of all the mice but certainly reduce their numbers.
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

My son has a neighbor who once purchased a shiny new black pickup truck. Being a dog person he was incensed when a free roaming cat began leaving muddy tracks daily on his new vehicle. In desperation he placed several of the large glue traps intended for rats in the bed of his truck. Hey claims the kitty no longer visits.
