    Default Let There Be Light

I started posting in the 'What are you working on' thread but since my project isn't razor related so I'll continue here.

Here's some links to what I'd posted in the other thread:

Sharptoon later posted some pics of a very nice Aladdin that he found while cleaning out his dad's apartment. Check it out.

So I had picked up another Aladdin but it didn't have the Shade or the ring to hold it and the glass chimney was cracked so I ordered new mantles and a new chimney. I got the High Output/High Elevation chimney as they put out up to 20% more light at sea level and are a must for 4 thousand feet and up. My local Ranch and Home carries kerosene in various sizes. So after burning off the mantles, filling the fonts (the bottom that holds the kerosene) I got the two lamps operational.

I played with them most all afternoon and there is a little trick to getting enough of the wick up that you get maximum brightness but no black spots on the mantles. Research showed that all you need to do to get ride of the spots is to turn the wick down a bit and they will burn off and then you can adjust the wick back up a bit.

Here's Some Pics last night after dark. I had turned off all lights after getting a lamp up and going.

I stumbled upon a great buy on a third that has the same base as my first one so I should be all set for power outages (at least for light and a bit of heat).

    Thanks for looking :

Hooray, now let's get Tom to post the progress on his green Washington Drape Aladdin. I do believe that with both lamps going you would have enough light to shave with.

When it comes to getting the most out of those lamps, one should never under estimate the power of a mirror.

I'm no alarmist or survivalist etc but in my experience there is no such thing as 'dependeble power' as Mother Nature has a way of flipping mankind the bird and showing us who is really in charge of things.

In 2010 we had an ice storm with miles of power lines down. I was with out power for 4 days. My Aladdin's saved my butt. My neighbor wasn't so lucky, he was with out for over two weeks. After I got power my Model 23 Aladdin went to his place and burned almost non stop for him. He was warm, his wife had light to cook by and the kids did their home work for school. When he finally got power the first thing his wife did was to order a brand new Aladdin.

    Default NOID

Yup, I got the NOID today. My latest Washington Drape Aladdin Lamp arrives with the drape broken

I've contacted the seller and am waiting for a reply.

I've never had to deal with a 'claim' at FleaBay, I just hope it's not any kind of hassle.

that;s too bad Roy, It's a nice looking lamp too. BTW is there a style of lamp that would be better (and preferably less expensive) for a noob like myself? You got me thinking about dependability of power.
