My friend I've never eaten them raw. I'm not a fan of raw onions. But if you put them in some tinfoil sealed up with butter on the grill for about 10-15 minutes......now you're talking delicacy. I bet your dad laughed real good though

Steel, seems like you're doing great. And good on you

Yeah there's a lot of folks that think canning is just work. As it wasn't all that much fun when we had to do it as kids. But I still enjoy it for different reasons

    Fleming Farms Update!

The garden is all done!! Planted 2 rows of Silver Queen corn, two rows of okra, two rows of pink-eye purple hulls, two rows of zipper peas and two rows of cream 50. Also planted a row of cucumbers, a row of onions (Georgia Sweet), a row of white squash and a row of yellow crook neck squash. Set out 24 tomato plants (various species), six pepper plants (jalapeno, bell, and banana). Also, six watermelon plants. I also found an excellent deal on fruit trees on my way back from Louisiana so i bought and set out three Satsumas and two lemon trees.
The chickens are holding steady at 5-8 eggs per day and we have one broody hen that we're letting set out about 8 eggs. We'll see how she does.

We plan on trying to actually make a little money with the farm this year. Hit up some farmer's markets and try to find some buyers in town. We'll see how it goes.

Ya'll keep us updated on the progress of your homesteads!

What are some of the best states to do this homesteading? Best laws and such...I live smack dab in the middle of silicon valley and I'm ready to "run for the hills."

Idaho has some really good spots

North Idaho where I am at doesn't have a great growing season, but if you were serious you could do Tunnels, Hoops or Walapini growing

South of I-90 is open farming country or Potato Idaho

I'm not sure if it's a ramp or not. We do have a ton of trout lily around here. I need to pick some the next time I'm out.

If it's a ramp, you usually can't pull them easily. Well at least not around here.
I take a small gardening shovel with me when I go for the ramps. Just much easier and you don't pull the leaves off and leave the good part

Dug a few ramps today for a friend that came with me to check my bees. He was impressed.

Your romantic life will go seriously downhill after eating a few!
